Publisher's Summary

Arlo Wright’s introduction to his sexuality came when he saw his older brother’s best friend, Jack Cooper, in his sweaty football kit. Unfortunately, he didn’t have long to enjoy the revelation because he promptly knocked himself out on a table.

Relations between them have never really moved on from that auspicious beginning. Arlo is still clumsy, and Jack is still as handsome and unobtainable as ever. However, things look like they’re starting to change when Arlo finds himself sharing a room with Jack while on holiday in Amsterdam at Christmas.

Will the festive spirit finally move them towards each other, or is Arlo just banging his head against a wall this time?

From best-selling author Lily Morton comes a warm romantic comedy set in chilly Amsterdam.

Sweet and low angst!

This was a lovely low angst, opposites attract romance!

Joel Leslie performed a brilliant audio delivery and narration.

I loved the setting of the story and the characters were likeable and well fleshed out.

Definitely recommend this fluffy slice of pure goodness

Extremely cute and predictable

They were points where I didn’t wanna stop listing. Some what of a predictable plot and trite but the story flows effortfully

A Christmas delight

honestly, I loved this. The performance was a perfect fit in this odd story of opposites attracting. It felt more believable due to main couple having history. I can only hope my love and I continue as the main two do. (fair warning; explicit scenes exist and are important due to them enriching the way these two grow.)

An unexpected delight

This was an impulse buy---I was looking for the Audible equivalent of comfort food---and this sweet, funny romance hit the spot. Joel Leslie's performance was spot on, and brought out the humor beautifully, as well as the happy romance. A good impulse buy!

Merry indeed

I loved this charming story when I read it, and Joel Leslie does his usual stellar job of narrating. It's funny, swoony, and hot, with Amsterdam as a supporting character.

Ruined by Joel Leslie

As of today JL is no longer an auto-buy for me. This is appaling. Not changing voices after the first chapter. No emotional expression. And read in such a rush even slowing down to 75% did not make it better.
I listened for 2 hours and have no clue about the personalities and how they are feeling, and on top of that nothing I heard sticked in my mind. It could be a lovely novel!

Cheerful holiday/vacation story

This book falls between four and five stars for me. I had several laugh out loud moments, which is kind of rare for me in books, so I tipped over to five stars. What I like about this book is that even though it's not overly long and we don't know any of the characters from previous books, the world building, the characterization, the friendships between the characters, it all seems very natural and intimate. I feel like I've been invited right into the world and I don't have to wonder about anything or wait to be told something I want or need to know or search for details. I think Lily Morton is a really excellent author in that respect. She is very good at writing real people.

The romance develops over a period of 3 days, but I wouldn't call it instalove at all since the main characters have a lot of friendly history. The romance feels very natural and realistic and I believed it. So far this sounds like a rave review, and it is in a way. The one thing that I really didn't like is the conflict. I can't really talk about the specifics of the conflict without giving spoilers, so I'm not going to. I just feel like the conflict element was overdone and almost like a caricature and I think that it could have been just as effective for having a little more subtlety than it did, but this author is sort of famous for her over the top antagonists so I shouldn't be surprised. It was a jarring note in an otherwise very well done and lovely story, though.

I'm not going to speak too much about the narration because that is a very personal preference. The sample is a good representation of what you can expect, so give it a listen. I'm not a personal fan of this narrator as I find his assumed variety of British accents to be way too careful and unrealistic-sounding, but it may not bother you at all.

Love The Story

I love Lily Morton - she is an absolute confort read. Her characters are delightful, and Jack and Arlo are the perfect Christmas read. I have to admit, I didn't love Joel Leslie's narration on this book. It seemed very rushed - I'm usually someone who speeds up their audios, and even at regular speed I found this too fast. It lost some of the nuance because of that. Still love the story.

Funny and Sweet

Merry Measures is a standalone romantic comedy filled with fluff and humor. Arlo has always had a crush on his big brother’s best friend Jack, but Jack has always been in relationships…until now. Forced together (quite willingly) on a trip to Amsterdam, Arlo and Jack become closer and closer. The book is packed with shenanigans and sass, but very light angst. The characters are funny and I love the banter between all of them. The audiobook was narrated by Joel Leslie who does a fantastic job with the audio performance. I was laughing while listening and finished the book in one day.

Really fab book but

The narration was absolutely appalling.
It was up there with the worst I've heard, painful and he talked so fast!!!!!
The story was so well written though I did persevere.
I'll definitely read more from the author and avoid the narrator like the plague.

LOVED IT!

AAAHHHH! This is AMAZING. I love Lily Morton's work and I had already read the book, which I totally adored.
As always, the whole family/found family trope is strong with Lily's work and she does it so bloomin' well. Arlo is clumsy and totally adorable - he needs so many hugs. Jack, Arlo's brother's best friend, is the total opposite, but still needs hugs. They are both delicious in totally different ways. There is love, life and laughter at pace in this wonderful, happy book. The audio book is even better though as Joel Leslie adds his usual wit, charm and sexy voice to what was already a sexy book. GAH, just loved it.

A perfect winter warmer!

Lily Morton hits all the good tropes with this fun rom-com set in beautiful Amsterdam: Arlo Wright has always had feelings for his older brother Tom’s best friend, Jack Cooper. When Tom organises a trip to Amsterdam for friends and family so he can propose to his boyfriend, a mix-up leaves Jack sharing Arlo’s hotel room. This thoroughly enjoyable festive story has lots of heart-warming moments and the best of British self-deprecating humour. The two leads make a lovely, decent odd-couple: whereas Jack is fastidious, controlled, and firmly polite, Arlo is unapologetically untidy, free-spirited, and says what he thinks - usually with one foot in his mouth! Audio narrator Joel Leslie handled all the Dutch and British accents so impressively and his comedic timing hit each note perfectly.
