After a decade apart, childhood sweethearts reconnect by chance but how many words will it take for them to figure out where it all went wrong? From the New York Times bestselling authors of the “delightful” (Shelf Awareness) The Unhoneymooners.

The story of the heart can never be unwritten.

Macy Sorensen is settling into an ambitious if emotionally tepid routine: work hard as a new pediatrics resident, plan her wedding to an older, financially secure man, keep her head down and heart tucked away.

But when she runs into Elliot Petropoulos—the first and only love of her life—the careful bubble she’s constructed begins to dissolve. Once upon a time, Elliot was Macy’s entire world—growing from her gangly bookish friend into the man who coaxed her heart open again after the loss of her mother...only to break it on the very night he declared his love for her.

Told in alternating timelines between Then and Now, teenage Elliot and Macy grow from friends to much more—spending weekends and lazy summers together in a house outside of San Francisco devouring books, sharing favorite words, and talking through their growing pains and triumphs. As adults, they have become strangers to one another until their chance reunion. Although their memories are obscured by the agony of what happened that night so many years ago, Elliot will come to understand the truth behind Macy’s decade-long silence, and will have to overcome the past and himself to revive her faith in the possibility of an all-consuming love.

Wonderful and soulful story of 2 people who love each other interpret mistakes in their own and part for 11 years only to realize if they had communicated they would have not lost their way. The ending is not what I expected and you will need to listen for yourself.

This was not a favorite. The pacing was slow and the mood was depressing. The female character was angst ridden and indecisive. The foreshadowing left little question regarding the events that caused the separation between couple. I usually enjoy the flipping past to present. I did not in this novel. I am a huge fan of Christina Lauren and will continue to support. Average work from excellent writers

I did really enjoy this story that took you through a whole range of emotions along with Macy and Elliott. My only wish was that Macys dad , Elliott and Shaun sounded different..as they sounded the same which took away from the individual impact of their relationship with Macy. Especially Shaun, the mistake bf who I didn't want him sounding like Elliott. Otherwise great performance of Macys emotional struggles and turmoil.

What a love story!!

This was sooooo GREAT! I rarely listen to books that I haven’t first read, but I'm so glad that I listened to this book without having read it first. The audio narration is STELLAR! Erin Mallon is truly gifted, she made every single voice/character come to life in a unique way, I truly forgot that it was just one person reading.

I LOVE slow burn romances, I love all Mariana Zapata's books and this book is the only one that even comes close to my all time favorite Wall of Winnipegg and me. Macy and Eliot's relationship is real and epic at the same time - it is honest, raw, funny and heart breaking.

I only let myself listen to books while I'm walking and I didn't miss a single workout the week I was listening to this book and had to use every ounce of my discipline to turn it off when it was time to go home!

Amazing, Riveting, I didn't want it to end
