"A gorgeous love story from one of the finest romance writers out there." —Carley Fortune, New York Times bestselling author of Every Summer After

A New York Public Library Best Book of 2023

A Most Anticipated Book by Entertainment Weekly ∙ Harper's Bazaar ∙ PopSugar ∙ Real Simple ∙ BookRiot ∙ and more!

An overworked book publicist with a perfectly planned future hits a snag when she falls in love with her temporary roommate…only to discover he lives seven years in the past, in this witty and wise new novel from the New York Times bestselling author of The Dead Romantics.

Sometimes, the worst day of your life happens, and you have to figure out how to live after it.

So Clementine forms a plan to keep her heart safe: work hard, find someone decent to love, and try to remember to chase the moon. The last one is silly and obviously metaphorical, but her aunt always told her that you needed at least one big dream to keep going. And for the last year, that plan has gone off without a hitch. Mostly. The love part is hard because she doesn’t want to get too close to anyone—she isn’t sure her heart can take it.

And then she finds a strange man standing in the kitchen of her late aunt’s apartment. A man with kind eyes and a Southern drawl and a taste for lemon pies. The kind of man that, before it all, she would’ve fallen head-over-heels for. And she might again.

Except, he exists in the past. Seven years ago, to be exact. And she, quite literally, lives seven years in his future.

Her aunt always said the apartment was a pinch in time, a place where moments blended together like watercolors. And Clementine knows that if she lets her heart fall, she’ll be doomed.

After all, love is never a matter of time—but a matter of timing.

The book you wish you had seven years ago

I really loved the premise of the book that there’s and apartment that slips in time seven years. Others compare it to Time Travelers Wife, and I feel that’s apt, but it has its own feel to it too. I loved the careful handling of mental health issues presented in the book—how it gives you just enough and leaves out so much just like how it is in the real world—we don’t always get the answers.

The two characters have great chemistry from the get go.

I really want to be able to read these books with the next release promised as a preorder, just so I have something to look forward after the book hangover.

Romance with a time-traveling twist!

What a fun take on romance with a smart time-traveling twist. It’s also a beautiful meditation on grief and loss, which I wasn’t expecting and yet deeply appreciated. The performance was also excellent. A must-listen!

Loved it.

Having lost a parent to suicide 3 years ago, I felt that this book addressed suicide and those left behind perfectly. Suicide is ugly, it’s awful, and Ashley Poston wrote about it as beautifully as can be done. I LOVED this story.

A Lovely Story Despite with a Little Heaviness

To be honest, I loved The Dead Romantics more, but this is an excellent story in its own right. The characters are likable and the various facets of the story are interesting, and overall light.

It is important to note that the author does not take you through the scene of a suicide, instead it is referred to as a fact that happened. The main character spends much more time discussing what she loved about her aunt, as opposed to wallowing in the cause of her aunt’s death. I have taken a leaf out of Clementine’s book for this reason.

Clementine and Iwan are a sweet couple, and really balance one another out. Will I ever be able to look at a lemon the same way again because of this cute couple? No. They really have sweet chemistry, and I enjoyed their quirky story.

As she did with The Dead Romantics, I think Poston does an amazing job of weaving grief with romance and magical realism to create a story that is both relatable and extra-special. She is truly a wonderful storyteller.

As for the audio, it was excellent.

Pleasantly surprised by this story

I went into this book expecting a cheesy romance. I got much more than I expected. I loved this book, the story, and the messages within.

As far as romances go it’s a great one. I also gravitate towards stories where the main character is a driven successful woman. So this book checked a lot of boxes for me.

This book was beautifully written and so lovely to slip away into. I cried several times. The love story felt so authentic. I didn’t want it to end.

A well threaded warm hug of a book

There were a couple story lines that didn’t get enough follow through but outside of that-this was an incredible story! Moving, semi-realistic, sweeping love…all the good stuff with a hint of sadness thrown in.

Brilliantly creative… and tender!!

I listen to at least 5 books a month and this is one I will listen to again… for many reasons… the characters… the brilliantly creative story… the narrators voice!! I appreciate the way the author addressed mental health… I too lost an aunt the same way. Highly recommend… and already have!!
