Publisher's summary
New York Times bestselling author Janet Dailey journeys to the Lone Star state and the Cee Bar Ranch, where the Calders face a new threat to their land and way of life.
Quint Echohawk is a lawman, not a rancher, but he's a Calder through and through. And when someone sets out to undermine the Calders' Texas outfit, it's time for him to step in and investigate.
From the moment Quint's boots touch Texas dirt, it's clear that everyone in town is running scared from Max Rutledge, the ruthless owner of a competing ranch. Posing as a cowboy looking for work, Quint has no one to trust but "Empty" Garner and his granddaughter, Dallas. In Empty, Quint finds a steadfast ally; in Dallas, Quint finds something more--the promise of a future.
In a town where betrayal lies around every corner, where every unlocked door, thrown punch, or suspicious fire is just a hint of deadlier things to come, the Calders will be tested as never before. And this time, it could cost them more than their land…it could cost them everything.

The ranch country of Montana is beautiful, unforgiving, and for Colton and Denver McLean, filled with a whole lot of bad memories. It’s been seven years since a fire claimed their parents’ lives and drove both brothers away. Now their uncle’s death has brought them back to a place where loyalty and love runs deep - but so do grudges. Suspicion still swirls about what caused that tragic fire. It created a rift between Denver and the foreman’s daughter, Tessa Kramer. Now Tessa hopes to buy the ranch, if Denver and Colton will agree to sell, but the property is beset by problems

Getting NorthAm Fuel's newest shale refinery operational in the rolling hills of Upstate New York shouldn’t be much of a challenge, but then, she hadn't counted on dealing with vandalism, petitions, and a woman she’d never expected to see again - one who still haunts her dreams. Another terrifying, classic horror novel from best-selling author John Saul. An insidious madman haunts the peaceful town of Borrego, New Mexico. His goal is singular, as is the focus of his hate and rage. The teenagers of the town seem to have gone too far, and now he will strike back - while they sleep and even during their waking hours - and silence them forever.

Another great Calder saga.
Story held my attention, but as stated in all my previous reviews of the Calder series the narrator leaves a lot to be desired. In no way should a story about cattle, horses and cowboys should be Read by a Scottish woman. It certainly took away from the book and all the hard work Janet Daily put into writing it.

The English narrator ruined it for me!
I’ve listened to a lot of narrators that have received bad reviews and have always managed to get past them and enjoy the story, that is NOT the case with this book!! Whoever in their right mind chose a female English narrator for a rugged cattleman/lawman ranch saga?? I am so disappointed and struggling to finish, (less than an hour remaining). I feel like I’m listening to a leprechaun (grandpa), an English lady (who’s Texas born and raised, I might add), serving High Tea and the hero and Chase’s grandson sounding like a mix between a prissy English lord and a not-so-hot Scot! I wanted to get to know Logan’s son because I loved Logan in his story but I was unable to feel anything for him! I almost cried when I saw the same narrator for the final Calder saga series that unfortunately I have already purchased!

Great Book Terrible Book
Why did they use a narrator with a Scottish accent? I like this series but I hate the reader. She does not even try. Most narrators change their voices to fit the characters but her Scottish accent is always there. I really enjoy following the saga of the Caulder family.
