Story
When a body is hauled from the River Tyne, Sarah Tucker heads to Newcastle for a closer look. She identifies the dead woman as Private Detective Zoë Boehm, but putting a name to the corpse only raises further questions. Did Zoë kill herself, or did one of her old cases come back to haunt her? Coincidence is an excuse that soon appears pretty unconvincing. Sarah can’t leave until she’s found the answers to her questions, however dangerous they might turn out to be.

Story
After Englishman John Blackthorne is lost at sea, he awakens in a place few Europeans know of and even fewer have seen—Nippon. Thrust into the closed society that is seventeenth-century Japan, a land where the line between life and death is razor-thin, Blackthorne must negotiate not only a foreign people, with unknown customs and language, but also his own definitions of morality, truth, and freedom. As internal political strife and a clash of cultures lead to seemingly inevitable conflict, Blackthorne’s loyalty and strength of character are tested by both passion and loss.

London Rules might not be written down, but everyone knows rule one.
Cover your arse.
Regent's Park's First Desk, Claude Whelan, is learning this the hard way. Tasked with protecting a beleaguered prime minister, he's facing attack from all directions himself: from the showboating MP who orchestrated the Brexit vote, and now has his sights set on Number Ten; from the showboat's wife, a tabloid columnist, who's crucifying Whelan in print; and especially from his own deputy, Lady Di Taverner, who's alert for Claude's every stumble.
Meanwhile, the country's being rocked by an apparently random string of terror attacks, and someone's trying to kill Roddy Ho.
Over at Slough House, the crew are struggling with personal problems: repressed grief, various addictions, retail paralysis, and the nagging suspicion that their newest colleague is a psychopath. But collectively, they're about to rediscover their greatest strength - that of making a bad situation much, much worse.
It's a good job Jackson Lamb knows the rules. Because those things aren't going to break themselves.

It was 1970 in a defeated Rhode Island fishing town. Vietnam and Nixon dominated the national news. Both the near and distant future looked bleak. But they were five inseparable high school friends with something incredible in common: an unwavering resolve to look after each other no matter what hell life threw at them. And they were on a mission. The plan was simple: Go off the grid before they turned 18 to avoid the draft. They’d sell some grass, stack some cash, then head west and start a commune. What could possibly go wrong?

Brilliant!
Mick Herron has to be one of the best crime/spy writers on the scene today. Not only is he an intelligent and highly skilled writer who is a joy to read but he has a wickedly acute sense of humour and is an wry observer of our common humanity.
The Slough House series goes from strength to strength.
i can't recommend this book highly enough - outstanding.

A spy thriller / dark comedy that really works!
I don't know how I came upon this book, but it's one of the best audio books I have ever listened to.
The story is great, it's British comedy that's really funny, it's also a proper spy thriller, and the narration is superb!

Another superb book in the series!
Sean Barrett’s narration of this series is so good, he captures all the voices perfectly and his pacing is excellent. These books are so great, I’m very happy to find them made into worthy audiobooks. There are some laugh-out-loud moments too as the books are very funny.

Another Slough Horses Epic Advenure
Another serious and ironic Herron spy story. Great audio book interpretation. All the Slough Horses secret service chars are full of flaws, yet they feel real. Same for the Regent Park people their counterparts.
Jackson Lem, orripilante, cunning and in the end protective, it’s on of my favourite novel character ever.

Superb Jackson Lamb thriller
For all Slow Horses fans, it’s so satisfying reaching this book in the series. If you haven’t started yet, download the first book and work your way to this one. Narration by Sean Barrett is simply sublime, he captures the mood, humour and menace of Lamb and his crew perfectly. I’m definitely #teamShirley on this one. A brilliant listen.
