So, I have been a HUGE fan of Michael Sisa’s Legend Of the Arch Magus series for a long time now! I literally look forward to a new audiobook of this, whenever it is announced on Audible. I literally preorder it a MONTH before it is released! That’s how excited I am! Tom Taylorson is the GOAT when it comes to narrating this series. I literally can’t imagine anyone else narrating this series at this point in time, if it is not Tom Taylorson! And, just to get this out of the way, he DID IT AGAIN with this one too! Seriously, chief kiss to the narration! No complaints there!👌🏻
For years now, Sisa has been giving ‘knocks-out-of-the-parks’ with this series! And I practically listened to a the last one before the new one comes out, and I never got sick of it!
Now….this one, was a bit different. First of…the cursing. There was a lot….A LOT of cursing in this one. So much so, that I had to mute it at points when I was around kids. Sisa, I don’t know what got you in the ‘foul mouth’ mood but DAMN! Maybe…on the next one you can tone it down a bit?
Look, I’m not that strict on cursing when it comes to it happening in books, but geez, there was big amount of ‘f-bombs’ in this one…and I just didn’t feel it was needed THAT much? Sisa, if you are trying to go for a more mature audience in this one….I get it. But maybe in the next one you can cool it a bit on the cursing? It’s just…a lot. And I don’t think your characters need to curse THAT much in your series. Just a personal opinion I wanted to share.
Now, moving on…It has probably been made clear in a lot of reviews by now, but the main protagonist, Larch Marcus, is in about 30 to 40% of this actual audiobook. In fact, this is probably the first audiobook in the series where Marcus appears the LEAST. Sisa seemed to focus on the other characters within the story, which….I didn’t really mind, per se……Still, it didn’t really get that far with his actual story. Which for me, who had been waiting for almost half a year for this, was a bit of a let down.
STILL, I did enjoy the stories of the other characters, even though I was hoping to progress more in the main story. Glad that some characters found love! Others got to follow their dreams! And the few that actually got some character growth!
I DID NOT enjoy (spoiler warning) Sisa’s direction for the main antagonist, Demon Lord Barkavara (probably spelled that wrong, sorry) is going! I mean, to just give up like that and go on a path of peace! Really?!! You made him out to be a warrior with the thirst for battle! The last few books, you made him out to be a near overpowered antagonist that would serve as probably the final boss for our fearless main protagonist to face! And then, after a simple betrayal in this chapter of this series, he just…gives up?! Really?!!
It would be like if Thanos got all the Infinity Stones and was about to face off the Avengers in “Infinity War”. But then, there was just a small betrayal by one his goons on his spaceship, and he just decides right there and there to simply give the Infinity Gauntlet to one of his other goons and heads out to his farm on that distant planet! THE END! I mean, really? Come on!!!!
Look, it’s just…a real let down, okay? I was REALLY looking forward to the Immortal Demon to face off against Larch Marcus. And to have him just decide to give up his throne and walk down now the path of peace really took the fun out of it. He…did a lot of bad things in the last audiobook of this series too. And NOW he just decided to go for peace?! Man, he could have spared A LOT of lives in the last installment if he had done that sooner….Just saying.
Okay, my rant is over…and so are my spoilers.
Overall, I did enjoy this audiobook. Yes, there was a few directions that I did not like that Sisa took in regards to the story….but not so much so that I now hate this series all together. I’m still a loyal fan to this series, and yes, I will still eagerly be awaiting for the next one! Michael Sisa, thank you for another installment into this amazing series! Tom Taylorson, thank you again for narrating this amazing series! I cannot wait for what happens next!
