One of the best of the year

Some reviews say he was supposed to be an all powerful wizard but from what I got he was merely the last, not the most powerful. Just a 5th circle..where their were quite a bit more lofty titles. Also the MC was from a dying world where he grew up a street rat then isolated by the end so isnt the most socially adept. Honestly felt like that, like a powerful wizard that had little experience beyond battle and magic.

Now the story itself was engaging, a few mysteries to be left wondering about. Good MC and side characters. Plenty of future knowledge to implant yet not OP level just enough if done right that could change the future. Enough hardships to seem setbacks but not feel like unrealistic author roadblocks or plot armor defeats of them. It was well balanced.
No real cliffhanger ending yet left wanting more.
All and all a great book and decent narration.
If done right and put out fast could rival and of the other major progession fantasy out there.

A decent first draft.

While I enjoyed the overall story. Some of it has already been done in other books. Wizard taking over the body of an incompetent & weak noble? Check. Wizard teaches poor people which weeds they can eat to survive winter? Check.

What dropped it to 3 stars for me was the writing quality. I legitimately got sick of adding notes to the kindle version to make corrections of bad/awkward English. Some of the fight scenes and conversations are basically nonsensical. I would be surprised if English is the author’s first language.

I would have easily given the book 4 stars if they had reviewed the book with an editor and cleaned it up before releasing it.

Good story so far

I like it. I hope the author focuses on strengthening the main character more in the sequel as I love a pretty much overpowered MC. Other than that, maybe increased development of the MC’s territory. Looking forward to the MC’s family entering the mix also.

This is a page Turner. You will not be disappointed one of my new favorite authors, excellent writing excellent narration, entertaining from start to finish.

easy recommendation

I've never read anything by this author before. I do try and take it easy on the first book of a new series. I don't really feel like I need to do that with this one. The publisher of this book is one in which I found quite a few phenomenal stories. It is how I came across this author and this book. As a general rule I will read the book utilizing Kindle unlimited and then if I like it pick up the audio should it have received the audio treatment. I think it was probably three or four chapters in when I came to a screeching halt and went in search of the audiobook. Full disclosure I was pretty sick to my stomach and looking for something to distract me and this turned out to be the perfect fit. Our main character is introduced to us in the middle of a life and death struggle. It is all but over for him when he puts into motion A desperate peace of magic after having just been partially blinded. When next he wakes he is in somebody else's body hundreds of years from where he intended to go. His history is that of a street rat who now finds himself in the deceased body of a little lordling. Mysteries abound almost from the very beginning and our main character struggles to unravel them while dealing with repairing the land he now finds himself in charge of. There's a lot of good threads started in this first book that will more than likely carry through the rest of the series and certainly the sequel. The sequel is scheduled for release in July though I don't know whether or not it will also be a dual release with the audio version. I know I intend to come back for the sequel and I do recommend this book to anybody reading the review. With that I'll simply say a round of applause for everybody who had a hand and bringing this book to us, the Amazon readers and audiobook listeners.

Fun regression/kingdom building story

It has some similarity to Legend of the Arch Magus, but the complete opposite. Furthermore, it’s just fun in general. I love seeing the difference in perspective of those of the ancient times and the protagonist. Highly recommend

A decent enough story in need of copy editing

The overall story was interesting, the MC likable, in a world that has a lot of potential. There are some interesting side characters, with a couple used to good effect develop events and the world as things progressed. The challenges facing the MC seemed realistic within the world the author created, and there were little to no 'MC pulls out miracle solution that should have been used in the beginning' issues. It's a fun enough listen if the issues don't bother you.

One of the biggest issues for me was the author using words that sound close to the intended ones, but that mean entirely different things. It was jarring enough to pull me out of the story multiple times, particularly as the overall structure and syntax of the book was good. Some of the action description was very confusing, with strange and/or inconsistent descriptions. At least one very interesting side character shows up regularly but their significance is never explained in this first book. Not even a hint is given to the reader/listener. The final straw for me was a suspected bad guy already knowing about a supposedly valuable resource, with the MC not being remotely curious as to how said bad guy knew. No one brought up that concern. The MC is never concerned with how this bad guy gets their info. The closest the book comes to explaining it is the bad guy essentially saying the first time we meet them 'I have my ways, nya ha ha!' Given how clever the MC is overall, it's a pretty unbelievable oversight. Ideally this would have been caught by alpha readers.

Lastly, this isn't really a LitRPG. There are no stats, no numbers going up, no status screens, and no real game elements. The magic system seems to be a combination of cultivation and magic, with circles denoting capacity and potency. LitRPG adjacent maybe, but it's more of a regression/reincarnation fantasy.

Not terrible..

overall not too terrible not sure if it's a language issue but several terms used by the main characters don't match the time period. the main character is supposed to be a super wizard that survived the apocalypse makes extremely odd and amateur choices in combat, just a few too many inconsistencies. I tried to finish but 2 hours left I'm just calling It quits

Magic system

Great book! It reminds me of another series but I love the story line. I can’t wait for the next book to come out in audible.

Been done; still fun

This is like the 4th magus reborn type genre. So not at all original. Yet! The author still makes it entertaining. Will try the next book in the series.
