Publisher's Summary

Narnia...where the woods are thick and cool, where the Talking Beasts are called to life, a new world where the adventure begins.

Digory and Polly meet and become friends one cold, wet summer in London. Their lives burst into adventure when Digory's Uncle Andrew, who thinks he is a magician, sends them hurtling to...somewhere else. They find their way to Narnia, newborn from the Lion's song, and encounter the evil sorceress Jadis, before they finally return home.

This was the sixth book written in The Chronicles of Narnia. It now stands as the first book in the series.

Don't miss any of the books in C.S. Lewis' classic Chronicles of Narnia series.

"Great, except the one bad word that was repeated."

Listened to it with my Husband, because neither of us had read this first book of the Narnia series. Be forewarned prior to allowing children to listen to it, in the US it would be rated PG, due to language.

    "Well read."

Well read. Narrator kept it exciting without being too childlike. Finally, I have the full beginnings of Narnia instead of the bits and pieces I had stumbled across when I was very young.

"Not one of Mr Lewis 's best. "

Didn't hold my attention well, however, is an ok story, and gives background to Narnia.

    "A classic! "

While it was written sometime after lion Witch and the Wardrobe, it's an important prequel and a worthy read.

"Kenneth Branagh did a masterful job reading. "

I am very familiar with all of the Narnia tales. They are favorites. Kenneth Branagh was a pleasant surprise. I am hearing disabled and quite a few performances (readings) I can't follow. I thoroughly enjoyed listening to Branagh. I will look for other books he has performed.
