A man dressed in a long coat with bandages covering his face arrives in a small village and does not engage much in conversation. Oliver Twist is a young boy whose mother died upon his birth and father is nowhere to be seen. Oliver ends up in an orphanage and is not treated especially well. Most of the children do not have enough to eat while the people in charge are well fed. The boys take a chance on asking for more food and Oliver is selected by chance. When he asks for more food he is relegated to a workhouse where the conditions are poor. From there on, he lands in a number of uncomfortable situations including thieving gangs, though sometimes finding kind people who take pity on him. In the long run, he has a difficult life, but in the end, he emerges with good friends and peace in his life.

This adventure tale is appropriate for children and adults.
My kids and I listen to audiobooks all the time. This was the worst recording of a book we have come across on audible. The female reader had a stilted voice and emphasis on improper words. The chapter ends and beginnings were stated robotically and had obviously been edited in later at a different volume. I would not recommend this book.
