Most of the children do not have enough to eat while the people in charge are well fed. The boys take a chance on asking for more food and Oliver is selected by chance. When he asks for more food he is relegated to a workhouse where the conditions are poor. From there on, he lands in a number of uncomfortable situations including thieving gangs, though sometimes finding kind people who take pity on him. In the long run, he has a difficult life, but in the end, he emerges with good friends and peace in his life.

    "Horrible narration."

My kids and I listen to audiobooks all the time. This was the worst recording of a book we have come across on audible. The female reader had a stilted voice and emphasis on improper words. The chapter ends and beginnings were stated robotically and had obviously been edited in later at a different volume. I would not recommend this book.
