Story
While reading psychiatrist Kay Redfield Jamison's groundbreaking account of bipolar disorder, An Unquiet Mind, Sarah Wilson discovered an ancient Chinese proverb that would change her life: To conquer a beast, you must first make it beautiful. Wilson, a best-selling author, journalist, and entrepreneur, had spent years struggling with her own beast: chronic anxiety. And the words of this proverb would become the key to understanding her condition.

Gretchen Rudin tackles the critical question: How do we change? Her answer: through habits. Habits are the invisible architecture of everyday life. It takes work to make a habit, but once that habit is set, we can harness the energy of habits to build happier, stronger, more productive lives. So if habits are a key to change, then what we really need to know is: How do we change our habits? Better Than Before answers that question.

Story
Good Sugar Bad Sugar tackles the biggest dietary threat to the modern world: sugar. Due to refined sugar in so many foods, we are seeing epidemics of obesity and type II diabetes on a global scale. The warnings are stark - a 50 percent rise in the death toll from type II diabetes in the next 10 years - yet it's not as straightforward as telling people to cut down on the sugar. Sugar consumption is an addiction that begins at birth and it requires a proven method to get you free.

Story
Among Americans, diabetes is more prevalent today than ever. Obesity is at epidemic proportions; nearly 10% of children are thought to have nonalcoholic fatty liver disease. And sugar is at the root of these, and other, critical, society-wide, health-related problems. With his signature command of both science and straight talk, Gary Taubes delves into Americans' history with sugar: its uses as a preservative, as an additive in cigarettes, the contemporary overuse of high-fructose corn syrup.

What I wanted and more!
I just wanted a small book as an intro into what life looks like without sugar, before I go into the bigger more scientific books. This book came through big time. The author tells you what to expect each step of the way and has a very balanced approach.
She gives some recipes and enough scientific backing to show just how important being off sugar is. She says in the beginning of the book being off sugar gave her a sense of calm. That's what motivated me to listen to this book and do what it says. It's been a little more then a week and I can already see a difference with myself emotionally. So yes I recommend this book!

I’m so thankful for I Quit Sugar
I Quit Sugar was the only program that I’ve ever used where the pounds melted off easily and I was actually able to kick my overpowering sweet tooth. My husband and I actually did the program for 100 days (I like a nice, round number!) and I lost almost 20 lbs. I had a knee injury so I didn’t exercise like the program recommended (doctors orders were to stay off of my knee for a few months, using crutches), so I can’t imagine how much more weight I would have lost if I was exercising.
I initially did the program to get rid of my sugar addiction, so the weight loss was an added bonus. It was amazing how my body reacted, like it couldn’t wait to get all of that junk out of my system. Plus, I feel so well educated now about healthy fats, food alternatives (like cinnamon!), and mindset practices to get through a nasty craving. Knowing that a happy life is possible without sugar has forever changed me.

Not what I expected
Not what I expected. Although it was easy to listen to, the book gave more of a story than guidelines of how exactly to break down the 'diet' plan. I also thought it was strange that the recipes were read aloud, but I guess I appreciate the inclusion of them!

Collection of tips on how to cut sugar
Would you try another book written by Sarah Wilson or narrated by Jessica Geffen?
Overall, this book helped me trial the sugar-free diet for a few weeks (together with reading Sweet Poison, the actual book that inspired Sarah Wilson). However, due to lack of academic and practical evidence (I didn't have much more energy) I slowly reintroduced most sugar again albeit slightly reduced.
I had to pause this audio book and reflect or make notes quite a lot. It's not a flowing story but rather instructions for a week-by-week program and as such I would have probably preferred a written version to an audio version.
Any additional comments?
As a British English speaker, I would have preferred a British English narrator to the Australian accent.

Better than I was expecting
This e-book is pretty solid advice. I must confess I was expecting an Australian accented narrator, and some of the Aussie vernacular sits badly with the dulcet American narration. It took me out of the narration every now and again and I'd be contemplating accents, rather than information.
But as someone who has tried with varying levels of success to quit sugar a few times, this approach is workable for me. I like that Sarah Wilson includes references to the research she has used and that she is honest about the detox process being potentially uncomfortable and difficult. Overall it's pretty solid. It does what it says on the box.
My issue with the narration is a personal preference. She's a good narrator, it just didn't work for me.

Terrible!
To listen to an Australian authors book read with such a strong American accent was excruciating!
Apart from that, Sarah Wilsons scientific evidence needs to be more than a 'sneaking suspicion' that sugar was the root of every problem she ever had.

Save your money and use google!
Any 'real' information in here can be found on google by searching sugar content of food, or recommended sugar intake. I didn't find the book motivating or enlightening in anyway. Just my personal opinion of course. Sarah is a very well respected author and health coach, and I will continue to look at her work. This one just didn't hit the spot for me at all.
