Publisher's Summary

Montana Coggeshall is feeling the squeeze - and not just because of his new leather pants from the goddess Eona. His little safeholding in the ruthless world of Vuldranni is under siege. On both sides.

At the front is Lord Caticorix, a grade-A Imperial flunkey if there ever was one. He's clearly ridiculous, but the army he brought with him might not be. Plus they're bent on blocking Coggeshall from getting any food or supplies from the outside world.

And at the back are the ursus, the larger-than-life bear people who've traditionally called this valley home. They're none too pleased with Montana for taking in a few ursus refugees, and would like the 400-lb Goldilocks and her followers out of their house now, thankyouverymuch.

Battles are brewing, and the entire town is being held hostage. And despite all his strength and ability, Montana needs to do some serious training to get Coggeshall out of this. There are actual stakes this time - children could starve, his friends have gone missing - and Montana's not sure he has what it takes to save everyone.

This video game world is starting to feel way too much like reality.

Still had me hooked but...

I don’t love how the mc still gets patronized by everyone. It was refreshing at first to have someone who wasn’t perfect but in some cases in this book it doesn’t even make sense. Like- why does a random archery or weapons teacher get to look down upon a dude whose pretty much pulled them out of the fire multiple times? Stations aside- at some point it’s just rude, especially to the man who basically gave them a place to belong.

Rant over- still love the story and eager for the next!

No Respect

While I have been enjoying the storyline so far, I have been becoming more and more frustrated with the interactions between the MC and all of the side characters. Duke Montana, who has a direct line to several gods, and who alone takes on monsters that an army of dwarves would be hard pressed to survive, who generously provides free food and protection to all who show up on his doorstep, yet constantly gets treated with fear and revulsion by everyone, including his closest followers. If he isn't getting even a modicum of respect or appreciation from anyone after all of his herculean efforts, then why continue to bother? And I am really beginning to despise Nicolai. Every time he appears in the story, he is so snarky and condescending to his liege lord no matter what the situation and without having any of the facts, that all I can do is hope that Duke Montana will pull a giant hammer-of-smashing out of his magic bag and drive Nick in to the floor like a rusty nail. Please, please Mr. Ugland - allow a bit of character growth in the next book. This is getting beyond frustrating.

Another one.

I absolutely love this series. If you’ve already made it this far into the series you know what to expect and Mr. Ugland never disappoints.

too much info not enough story progression

These past 3 books have been such a go nowhere books. Sure things are happening but the amount of pointless over-explaining and needless conversations its made this series really exhausting. Old mate keeps taking on quests and clearly missing out on the basic important stuff, it is doing my head in!

I really like the book

It is RPGlit, but loosely. No real hardcore levelups. I like the story, I like the voice actor. My only real complaint is that Montana cusses too much for my kids to listen to it.

10/10

Amazing story progression, loveable characters and a strong MC. My only gripe is that it's only 8hrs long.
