Above average.

The narrator is OK. He makes most characters sound the same. He is still far better than a lot of others Ive listened to.

The story isnt bad and the author doesnt beat stats to death like many others do. Overall its worth a listen.

Fun but too long

People on Earth are randomly afflicted with “The Two Week Curse,” an illness that causes them to disappear about two weeks after contracting it. Unbeknownst to humanity, the curse doesn’t kill its victims. Rather, it transports them to another world. This is revealed in the first 15% of the book, so it’s not a spoiler. Why this occurs and where they go you will have to discover in your own.

Eric and Rugrat, two ex-special forces soldiers turned contractors, contract the curse and are transported away. Before leaving they discover the curse has given them each a HUD (heads up display) menu with statistics and abilities listed., similar to those found in RPG video games. They tinker with their abilities here on Earth, and develop them on the new world they emerge on. There they use their military discipline to quickly adapt to their new world and circumstances.

This seems like the beginning of a very good series. The only problem is that it is too long-winded. There is a bunch of “fill.” The main plot line is very entertaining though.

I have become a big fan of Neil Hellegers. His narration is lively and pleasing to listen to. He adds flavor to the characters who seem to need just a bit to distinguish them from becoming background.

this is my favorite book series as a veteran I can relate to both Eric and Rugrat especially since I have been in the same situations as them before they went to the 10 relms.

I enjoy the leveling and varying voices for the different characters. Overall story and depth is good.

one of the good ones

Better than 95% og the LITRPG books I have read and along the lines of He who fights monsters and Defiance of the fall, although you cannot really compare the books. I really enjoyed the first one though.

I loved it

It was different but still kept the fantasy RPG vibe without feeling like a cultivation story. Seriously give it a shot, its a bit slow at the start, it doesnt really get interesting until chapter 8 when we finally feel like stuff is about to begin but after that it was fun, It was worth having listened to.

don't you hate it when you start a series and by book 4 it sucks?

this review is for the whole thing. I'm gonna be honest with you.

the characters are well developed and relatable. I'm from a military household and I was CRYING I was laughing so hard at their banter, and crying at the tender brother in arms parts and by golly, I love a bro story.
this is a bro story staked with strong female characters....but all in all it's a bro in arms story and I am all in for it.

now for what I really wanna tell y'all.
even if you have to DRAW it out in your own little diagram, you HAVE to keep track of the side characters.
I kid you not.
I always have a good head for side characters and who is who anyway and even I got a little crosseyed by book 5.
but it is SO worth it.
you will have your favorite and your favs favorites and you will cry when stuff happens to them and it really is a rollercoaster of emotional ...I actually have no idea what trip I've been on, but it was a trip.
but you HAVE to pay attention to who is who. and it's SO worth it!!

Unique Story

It's a story that I've not heard before. Military brought over into another world with their guns is pretty cool.

Awesome, and keeps you wanting more! Love the main characters and the world building! Eric and Rugrat are great reminders of my service with my brothers!
