Publisher's summary

Easy Company, 506th Airborne Division, U.S. Army, was as good a rifle company as any in the world. From their rigorous training in Georgia in 1942 to D-Day and victory, Ambrose tells the story of this remarkable company, which kept getting the tough assignments. Easy Company was responsible for everything from parachuting into France early D-Day morning to the capture of Hitler's Eagle's Nest at Berchtesgaden.

Band of Brothers is the account of the men of this remarkable unit who fought, went hungry, froze, and died, a company that took 150 percent casualities and considered the Purple Heart a badge of office. Drawing on hours of interviews with survivors as well as the soldiers' journals and letters, Stephen Ambrose tell the stories - often in the men's own words - of these American hereoes.

( San Francisco Chronicle)
"As a member of just such a unit...I am impressed by how well Mr. Ambrose has captured the true essence of a combat rifle company." (The New York Times Book Review)
"A valuable and fascinating record....In these pages, the reader can vicariously walk with the men of E Company, suffer and laugh with them." (The Times-Picayune)

Only a Soldier could relate...!

This was such a vivid and moving book which covered and described the experiences and accounts lived by the men of Easy Company. Only a fellow Soldier could relate to the suffering both physical and mental that Infantryman experience in combat. An amazing and riveting part of American and U. S. History.

Better of reading than listening.

This story is of course wonderful as you might expect. It’s the first hand accounts from the men of Easy Company. But the narrator ought to be ashamed of himself for the numerous and egregious mispronouncing of nearly all the foreign word in the book. And frankly, why was this not caught by an editor? Many inept and uncaring people helped leave an unfortunate stain on an otherwise pristine masterpiece of a story.

Excellent

Wonderful book. Really paints a picture of what these great heroes suffered for freedom of the whole world. The best WWII book I’ve read. I also appreciated that vulgar language was toned down.

The story never grows old

This is a good complement to the mini-series "Band of Brothers". Very enjoyable. However, the narrator mispronounces a number of names--a fault that could have been prevented if he had watched the mini-series. He studies too hard to pronounce things in French. Nothing wrong with the book, though.

Miniseries was better

I read this a year after watching the miniseries. Things are just duller in the book. The detail doesn't add much. The relationship between Lewis Nixon and Richard D. Winters does benefit from better treatment. It's still a good story, and I found myself very interested in knowing what happened to all the soldiers after the war, especially Winters.
