Publisher's Summary

Bobbi Richmond has always been in love with her best friend, Gabe Braddock, even if Gabe, who works for her media mogul father, has always treated Bobbi like a kid sister, calling her "Runt."

After a tipsy Bobbi kisses Gabe at a party, Gabe is surprised to find "Runt" becoming the object of his fantasies, and Bobbi is shocked to find her advances suddenly reciprocated. When Gabe suggests adding "benefits" to their friendship - while keeping their new arrangement secret from their families, of course - should Bobbi feel flattered, or insulted by his insistence on casual sex? Are they even a match? Slick and conservative Gabe dates coiffed blondes, while the tomboyish Bobbi spends much more time fixing cars than her hair.

When Gabe's twin brother, Chase, senses something's up between the old friends, he forces Gabe to confront his real feelings for Bobbi - and decide whether or not he could live without her.

He's a jerk, she's his doormat and I hated it!

No, no, a thousand times no. I finished reading this book holding on to hope that Bobbi would stand up to Gabe but it really never happened. Gabe and Bobbi are best friends. Bobbi has been in love with Gabe for years. Bobbi gets drunk at a party and kissed and touched him as only a lover would. The morning after she is ashamed and prays that her friendship with Gabe hasn't been damaged. Of course, Gabe started lusting after his best friend and couldn't get her out of his mind.

What's his solution? "Hey Bobbi, why don't we have sex whenever we have the itch, tell no one about it, get it out of our system and once we're done we can go back to being friends?" Bobbi is heartbroken, Gabe is not in love with her but at least wants to have sex with her. What's a girl to do? Well, if you have no self-esteem at all, are a coward and thinks settling is better than nothing, you'd become Gabe's lover and best kept secret.

Fourteen chapters of Bobbi content with crumbs while Gabe behaved like a monumental jerk. He would hurt her over and over again with his comments, his dismissive attitude about her job and appearance and Bobbi just took it while making herself available.

If Bobbi had thought first, Gabe isn't her best friend, he thinks of her as a tomboy, doesn't like the fact that she is a mechanic and cares only about his needs; second, if she had slapped him hard and heartbroken as she was moved on with her life and showed Gabe what he was missing, I would have respect for her."He is so gorgeous, I'm nothing like the women he dates and I love him and this is my only chance to at least have sex with him until he gets bored. I will treasure the memories forever!" I disliked her so much!

And Gabe, what an @#$!, what a selfish, immature piece of s@#$! The CEO of a company worth million of dollars and he writes childish poems and sends hundreds of flowers after he shattered Bobbi's heart? He missed the point, again.

One out of three, ain't so bad, I guess. I hope the next book takes away the bitter taste in my mouth after reading this one.

As for the narrator? Not the greatest, I still have to go back and listen again to a few phrases. Her accent is difficult to understand at times but then again, I'm not British.

DTR (define the relationship)

I'm not a writer nor have I ever attempt to write a book so on that note. This book was predictable and as always the heroine was weak for the hero. The reptiles are always week because they need a little thing called LOVE from the HEROS. Thats my 2 cents for now.

The accent was bad

I enjoyed the story itself, but the narrator's accent was really bad. I don't say this because she couldn't do it correctly, I say it because in trying to do the accent her pronunciation became uncomfortable to listen to. It became especially unfortunate when she read in the voices of the characters. It would have been better if the narrator used an English accent - it's not so far fetched that an English South African will have an English accent. The narrator has a really nice voice and I would love to listen to her narrating a book without this accent.

Out standing

Love this series. All 4 emotions covered. Laughing loving anger and crying with a book is the best ever.

Slow story line

What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?

Better narration and more depth to the character development.

Would you ever listen to anything by Natasha Anders again?

Probably not.

How could the performance have been better?

The narrator accents forced me to focus too hard on catching all of the dialogue rather than immersing myself in the plot.

If you could play editor, what scene or scenes would you have cut from His Unlikely Lover?

I only made it through chapter 4 before giving up.

The mechanic

Bobby was always in love with cars. But had a lot to learn about Love. The story was okay and the narration was great. A nice romantic story about two people who grew up next door to each other as best friends but life became complicated after as they became lovers.

4.5☆ across the board

Gabe was just oblivious, kind of sweet in a way, lovely sweet story.
I recommend others in the series too.
I don't listen to them back to back as they can be a bit similar but the are great to intersperse with other books.
