Dare to Resist by Laura Kaye

In a big fan of Laura Kaye and have read several of her books. I was looking forward to reading Dare to Resist, her prequel for the multi-author series, Wedding Dare. But I have to admit I could never really get into it. I didn't feel the chemistry between the two lead characters. And frankly all the self-talk and self-doubt each character seemed to continually go on about became tedious. When they finally were getting together their discussion about their preference for bdsm felt contrived and awkward. I had a hard time finishing this one which was disappointing, but it was probably just me. 2.5 stars.

Sweet, hot, and heartwarming! An older brother's best friend story where the electricity between Colton and Kady is sizzling!

A great one

It surprised me, finally showing a strong character.
I really liked it's a great book.

Wets the appetite

I'm very interested in this series now. This was a great short story that has heat, great characters and background which gives depth and lead to where, why and how these two can make it. The narrator is good but I like a bit more definition between male and female.

Overall ★★★½ It was a well-written pinning for my older brother’s friend / pinning for my best friend’s younger sister contemporary romance novella. It had just the right amount of steam and story.

Performance ★★★★★ Narrator Carrie Piper was new to my ears, but I really like her acting, tone and pacing. I’d definitely listen to another novel narrated by her.

Story ★★★☆☆ Kady Dresco and Colton Brooks discovered they shared more than being nerds and the same career field. They both like their sex rough without diving into hardcore BDSM exactly. I think their love story worked for me as a non-BDSM trope fan because they grew up together before Colton joined the military.

My favorite scene was when they were just chilling and watching the movie Office Space, one of my favorite old movies. Narrator Carrie Piper mimicked the movie actor Gary Cole as boss Bill Lumbergh telling Peter he wanted him to come into work over the weekend perfectly, bravo!
