Publisher's summary

Grace Hardwick was raised to be a survivor. Her dad taught her how to how to fight and how to think on her feet, hoping she'd never need those skills. When society fell apart around her, she needed all that and more. There was nothing in her life to this point that prepared her for the random violence, the brutality, and the cruelty of a starving and desperate populace turning on each other.

In the highly-anticipated sequel to Locker Nine, Franklin Horton takes us on a breakneck dystopian thrill ride where you cannot let your guard down. Every peaceful moment could be the preamble to the next act of random violence. Every moment an exhausted traveler spends sleeping could be the moment an attacker's knife curls around their neck.

Picking up immediately after the last book we find Grace taking refuge in a secure compound in the Southern Appalachians. After reuniting with her father, she expected that the remainder of her journey home would be uneventful. Her dad was with her now - things would be okay. She couldn't have been more wrong.

Nothing in this new life is easy. Grace and her friend Tom, a physically-challenged veteran utilizing a specially-outfitted track chair, find themselves suddenly thrown back in the fight. Robert Hardwick and Tom's mother become separated from their children and find themselves under attack from a highly-skilled and heavily-armed force. Most alarming of all, an innocent comment from a child's lips puts the remainder of Grace's family directly in the cross-hairs of a violent sociopath. If he is able to carry out his plans, Grace and her father will not have a home, or even a family, to return to.

Enjoyed it

Any additional comments?

Franklin Horton and Kevin Pierce are 2 of the best in the genre. Lots of loose ends with an obvious follow-up book on the way. With about an hour left, I found myself thinking that there is no way everything could be wrapped up by the end of the book. I was correct. The book was very good like all of Horton's books have been.

Once again this author leaves me longing for more

So many times an author has a hard time keeping the series alive and fresh, but not Franklin. You can tell he writes from the heart and paired with Narrator extraordinaire Kevin Pierce, he manages to bring us right back to the edge with this offering. I found this adventure to be even more action packed and wrought with the pain and suffering of what you would expect in times like these. As well you introduced the "Paul" and unfortunate
and very real danger to all walks of life in our country. They exist on the lowest levels of humanity and offer nothing and expect everything! The "Pauls" will be one of the most dangerous forms of foe to your existence when the SHTF really happen. I can say enough
good about this latest novel except bring on the next one!

Well worth the wait

This is the second book in the Locker Nine series. I was eagerly awaiting this book as I absolutely loved the first one.

In this installment we see Grace re-united with her father Robert at a survivalist ranch only to have to return home without him. When Grace makes it home she is, as the book title says, "under fire".

The book ends with a nice setup for a third book focusing on Robert fighting for survival at the ranch as it comes under siege.

much better than most 2nd books

Most second books in a series feel like filler. This book has edge of your seat and emotional moments throughout, not to mention the surprise laughs. Kevin Pierce as the Mad Mick is golden fun :)
