Publisher's summary

Giving Up Giving Up is a self-help audiobook in the form of a memoir by Abigail Gazda.

The uniqueness of this audiobook is in its ontological foundation. Gazda is an ontological life coach. The work she does with clients and groups is to have them take a much closer look at who they are being, rather than what they are doing, in life. In Giving Up Giving Up, Gazda takes listeners through her transformation, through never being allowed to quit, to quitting everything, to quitting conceptually, to acceptance.

There are four quadrants in this audiobook:

  • Toughing stuff out in childhood.
  • Early 20s being a big "screw off" to authority.
  • Ontological transformation: quitting people pleasing, quitting others expectations.
  • Accepting humanity, greatness, purpose, and creating a full life.

In this audiobook, Gazda gives the listener an opportunity to "look in the mirror", evaluate who they are, what they are, and what they hope to accomplish in life. This gives listeners the awareness and guidance to break through personal barriers in order to achieve ultimate life goals.

Self help book/memoir

The author tells of her own journey and experiences rather than lecturing The principles she discusses remind me strongly of the late Louise Hay. I enjoyed the information about loving yourself, pursuing your dreams, and being true to yourself. Also, how downplaying your strengths is being untrue to yourself and others. I will be relistening to this book and recommending it!!

Giving Up Giving Up Was A Terrific Helpful Listen

This audiobook was such an insightful listen. I enjoyed every bit of it. In many ways I was able to connect with the author. Giving up can sometimes seem so easy but keeping your head in the game is easier really. I liken it somewhat to people on a popular television show who perhaps try to start a fire from the raw and hastily give up after the first few tries rather than to keep trying. This in turn begins a snowball of continued disappointment and failures simply from the one thing that was given up on so quickly. And in life you must keep trying even when the outcome isn't what you expected. Eventually it will be. Baby steps.

Listening to this audiobook I was able to look at my own 'give ups'. I'm an artist for instance and so many times I give up either before I get started or soon after if what I'm painting isn't looking like what I expected.

Giving Up Giving Up has given me a new perspective and I think I will try harder in the future to NOT give up so quickly or at all.

I love when an author narrates their own audiobook and this one was excellent! Abigail Gazda did an outstanding job from top to bottom on this book. Listening to her in her own words was a real bonus. I loved this audiobook.

Solid narration for solid content

I received this book in exchange for an honest review.

I enjoyed Abigail Gazda's narration of her memoir type self help book, which I have to say is pretty rare for a book narrated by the author. Not all authors can turn out a well-narrated book. There were some recording errors which I pointed out to the company and they are being fixed. But overall the narration is upbeat and solid.

I found the information was in line with my interests and helpful overall. So I think the book is a good purchase. I could relate t o much (though not all) of it and it was framed in a way that I felt could reach people.

The book loses one star from me but I am not one to give 5 stars that easily. I really did enjoy and appreciate it. It is also a quick listen.

There are questions for contemplation in this book, and I don't always feel that translates well into an audio format. I did consider the questions, but not as much as if I was journaling while reading or something like that.

More Memoir Than Self Help But What’s Wrong With T

The actual title of this book is “Giving Up Giving Up: The Memoir of A Quitter” and I think that subtitle is extremely important. The author is a trained ontological life coach (I had to Google that one; “relating to the branch of metaphysics dealing with the nature of being”) but that’s not where the power of this book comes from. Learning from mistakes in life and realizing who you are (or aren’t in the author’s case) is where the value lies in this book. “Giving Up Giving Up: The Memoir of A Quitter” is a practical guide to looking in the mirror, defining what you see, deciding what changes are needed and then doing something about it.

Are the lessons here applicable to any stage of life? Maybe not. Certainly every college graduate should be handed a diploma and a copy of this book at commencement. Having recently retired am I in the same position to restructure my life in the same manner as the author? Probably not. I’d love to sell everything and set up shop in Glasgow but there are others who depend on me so my “people pleasing” has financial strings attached that would unduly harm others. Could I follow some? Sure. Are there those who could and should take this book to heart and follow its suggestions? Absolutely.

Two more things: I love the title. It took me a while but I finally got it. And I am also a big fan of author’s reading their own work and in this case there was this feeling that I was a therapist listening in as my patient journeyed on a path of self-discovery. Thanks for letting me eavesdrop.

Listen to this book and its message and quit being a quitter.

great autobiographical style self help book

I was given this free review copy audio book at my request and have voluntarily left this review.

This was a great autobiographical style self help book. The author illustrates the concepts she is trying to convey in a relatable and understandable way. Her reading her own book also lended itself to the relatability of this book. All in all, this was a very uplifting and enjoyable listen.
