Having listened to another audiobook from the same series, this one caught my attention since it covers a similar topic. I know alcoholism is a sensitive subject, but I find nothing wrong with reading about how real people reach the bottom of the well and struggle to come back to life, like Emily’s story, fighting against addiction to take back the reins of her life, rise from the ashes, recover her children, and prove that her love for them is stronger than anything. As I listened, I could truly feel Emily’s pain and how, no matter how hard she tries to leave alcohol behind, she falls again. She needs it, but doesn’t know why, until the point in the story where she figures it out. I won’t spoil it, but let’s just say sunshine begins to break through the deep dark clouds.

The narration is soft, sweet, and well-acted, emphasizing the different tones and voices of the characters, which makes it perfect for a complex and raw story like this one.
