INSTANT NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER

From TikTok and The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives star Mayci Neeley, a deeply personal story of love, grief, motherhood, and resilience.

Mayci Neeley and the women of MomTok burst into the center of pop culture when Hulu’s The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives took the world by storm. But the show barely scratched the surface of Mayci’s personal story. From becoming a mom at twenty, to losing her son’s father in a tragic car accident, to going back to college as a single mother, she’s only ever given us glimpses of the challenging things she’s been through. Now, finally, she’s ready to tell us everything.

In this inspiring and darkly funny memoir, Mayci lifts the veil for readers on what growing up Mormon is really like and how it’s strict standards completely blow up for many young people when they get to college. When Mayci arrived at BYU on a tennis scholarship, she was unprepared to manage the temptations she’d been taught were sins. She found herself drinking too much, stuck in an abusive relationship, and on the verge of falling down a dark and dangerous path. Suddenly, she was pregnant at nineteen and mourning a boyfriend she’d been building a future with. Mayci captures the period from college to adulthood with brutal honesty, grace, and humor, offering up a heartfelt portrait of a woman finding her voice and her strength.

All of these trials led to her current love story, her journey with IVF, and of course the inside story of MomTok. Fans looking for a juicy play-by-play on the friend group drama will get everything they want—and then some—but more than anything, readers will walk away with a sense of confidence in themselves and an ability to wear their scars proudly.

I don’t have words that I feel I can properly describe how amazing this book is. I LOVED getting to listen to it from Mayci herself, it felt so personal and like she was taking you along on her journey.

So much of it was so relatable, I’m not Mormon and have never really known much about Mormon culture but I grew up in a religious home. Hearing all the relatable topics on sex and the lack of anyone teaching you anything about the topic, to feeling the judgment of people who are supposed to be “living like Jesus” and not judging you (but they’re the ones harshly judging), to the anxiety and pressure of others views of you, to showing her journey with past trauma, to being real about the struggles of anxiety and depression. I was abused by a family member when I was 8 years old and it took me until I’m now in my late 20s to go through therapy and process through it. I felt because I, from the perspective of society, had the “privileged perfect life” that I was wrong for feeling the hurt when other people struggle way worse. Mayci highlights the importance of facing your trauma no matter what. It’s hard, it’s not one size fits all, and it’s not a one and done. It’s an ongoing daily battle that you work through because you owe it to yourself.

I appreciate how human she is and how honest she is about her struggles, sometimes it’s easy to let social media paint a perfect picture while we secretly hide the struggles we’re feeling. It was a nice reminder that we all struggle and we don’t have to hide it. I just loved this book so much, thank you Mayci ❤️

As sommelier raised Mormon and damaged by some of the Church’s ways of handling “sin”, it was a pleasure listening to someone talk about how shame damaged them. And even more, how she pushed through the stress and anxiety of all of it to helps others and to do something more! Her strength and resilience are admirable!! I hope may girls are helped by seeing you can get through hard times and all the judgement that Mormon girls are drowning in!

Mayci is a real girls’ girl and I can see why she got into social media, she’s so likeable! Super down to earth and the story was so intriguing. I did knock a star off of performance because her reading of it was emotionally dead and it felt awkward sometimes listening to the portrayal of super emotional events in such a monotone manner. Also could not handle the vocal fry at some moments when she was quoting people. But overall was an enjoyable listen and I’m really glad she told her story. I know everyone has a story but it’s sometimes hard to remember that when they only show superficial and vapid girls in reality tv.

This must have been so hard to write. I found myself scrolling her Instagram because I felt like I knew her. A friend I easily could have and a person i relate to. Thank you for telling your story. Also finished listening today on world mental health day!

This autobiography is one of the most powerful books I’ve ever read. The author’s courage to share their story of growing up Mormon—and the emotional, sexual, and physical abuse they endured—is both heartbreaking and deeply inspiring. What moved me most was how the author writes with such clarity and vulnerability. The storytelling is raw but never self-pitying—it’s full of resilience and moments of hope. This book isn’t an easy read, but it’s an essential one. It shines a light on experiences that are too often hidden or dismissed. I can’t recommend it highly enough.
