British film director Michael Winterbottom and science writer David Quammen on this edition of Fresh Air. Michael Winterbottom's films include Welcome to Sarajevo, 24 Hour Party People, and Wonderland. His new film In This World follows the arduous 4,000 mile journey of two Afghani refugees from Pakistan to Britian. The film was shot in Pakistan, Iran and Turkey. The two actors were "discovered" in Peshawar, Pakistan. Fifteen-year-old actor Jamal Udin Torabi has since applied for asylum in Britian. David Quammen's new book is Monster of God: The Man-Eating Predator in the Jungles of History and the Mind. He's also the author of The Song of the Dodo: Island Biogeography in an Age of Extinctions which received the John Burroughs Medal for natural history writing. Quammen is the author of five nonfiction books, and four books of fiction. He's been honored with the Academy Award in Literature from the American Academy of Arts and Letters.
