Publisher's summary

Jimmy Failla (AXS TV, BBC America) is a D-list standup comic with zero life skills beyond overeating and blowing exorbitant amounts of money on exotic gambling propositions. But when his wife gets pregnant, he realizes he'll need to do some growing up if he wants to avoid raising a career criminal. Thinking fast, he decides to get a taxi license and pick the brains of his passengers in hopes of gleaning the practical knowledge he'll need to convincingly play an adult someday. In the months that follow, Failla fills notebook after notebook with flawless life lessons given to him by major experts, including racist sock puppets, drug addled celebrities, military counterfeiters, and beer drinking goats. Follow That Car!: A Cabbie's Guide to Conquering Fears, Achieving Dreams, and Finding a Public Restroom is the survival guide that matured out of those notes.

In addition to imparting advice, the audiobook also recounts Failla's hilarious attempts at show business, preparing for fatherhood, and holding a marriage together despite having no sleep and nowhere to live. Ride along as he performs standup comedy for the New York Mets, flees drug deals gone bad, finds a public restroom, and still gets the cab back to the garage by five...most of the time.

Fun!

What a great fun book.
This is basically Jimmy Failla's life over a nine month period of time for the most part. He is a stand up comic basically unknown during the time period of this book. He finds out his wife is pregnant and needs to earn extra money now that he will have a baby. So he goes to work driving a yellow cab in NYC. He writes down all the life lessons his passengers have given him along the way. This book is acting out events during that time in his life.
I found that this book was the perfect length...even tho it left me wanting more of these funny stories. Hopefully there will be another book some day.
Normally I shun books read by the author as 9/10 the author has no ability to narrate. Autobiographies are the other way around 9/10 no one can read your life like you! Failla's voice was great! A really long stand up routine but so much more! I listened to this pretty much in a single listen, so easy to listen to and I found it never lagged in content allow way to the end. Next thing to do is to go and check out one Jimmy Failla's stand up shows in NYC.

Well worth the Audio version

Would you listen to Follow That Car! again? Why?

Yes. I really enjoyed the things the author learned from his passengers and find real practical value in those things.

What does Jimmy Failla bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

This audio book has actors, sound effects, music, and felt to be of high production value. I don't know if someone is hard up for an actual "Audio-book" but if your hoping for something that sounds like the author or reader reading to you the whole time, I would pass on it.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

The advice from the old man that worked at carnivals will stick with me forever.

Any additional comments?

I listened to this in between rides while driving my cab. Very enjoyable and funny.

A book of metaphors

Had a hard time with this one. Hoped it would be funnier than it was.
