Publisher's Summary

The long awaited republishing of NYHC Legend, John Bloodclot Joseph's raw and unfiltered autobiography. As real as it gets!

Updated with new chapters.

In his newly updated autobiography, NYHC legend John Bloodclot Joseph recounts his hard times and spiritual redemption. A traumatic childhood in foster homes was just the beginning of John's evolution. Before fronting one of the most important bands in the underground punk scene, the Cro-Mags, John faced homelessness, addiction, betrayal and insanity. Still, even his success couldn't save him from a relapse that set him back to square one - rock bottom. The book is a raw and unapologetic autobiography about his life. Consider yourself warned.

amazing

wow, was the first word that came to mind when I began this book, little did I know that I would be using that word quite often. John's story if full of pain and struggle but positivity as well. How someone can overcome these situations is amazing. PMA. great book

Captured me from beginning to end!

There are so many stories in this book that could be their own books. I found myself waking up in the morning looking forward to listening and waiting to go inside to see my family until the section I was listening to was completed.
The author telling about these events in his own words made it even better. I would tell my wife about some of the stories and I would start taking like the writer to relay them.
I cannot imagine going through what he's been through and coming out the other side at all - and definitely not with a positive mental attitude. Salute to this man, his story, and his evolution.

I'm 57 and Lord I wish I had known of this man long before now. Thank goodness I did find him. Listen, Learn, Heal. John can tell you how. The Lord will do the rest.

john in his own words

The book can dip at points but joeseph has some great stories and a gallery of some of the most interesting people. A great read but the audio has joeseph himself which adds another level.

If you think you’ve got it rough...read this!

This book has opened my mind, heart and eyes to how sheltered I have been my whole life. Some of the things John has gone through, I relate to. Knowing that whatever storm one is facing....there is always hope for those who seek it. Nothing comes without a price. Sometimes the price is small, sometimes great, but in the end, one can evolve into their full potential and change the world in a positive way.

Will forever hold a spot in my Top Ten

This book is magnificent. Truly magnificent. It is by no means just another musician bio. John’s story is inspiring, brutal and utterly captivating from the opening paragraphs to his epigraph. His memory recall is beyond impressive, and every story he tells lands with tremendous weight as it’s supported by his fantastic narration. You can really tell he’s invested in conveying every moment with unfiltered honesty and you have to admire that in a storyteller. One of my favourite parts is the intricate tour of New York City he takes you on throughout the memoir. You really feel like you’re there along side him, and at some points it can be pretty heavy. That heaviness is juxtaposed with moments of incredible humour. I’ve never laughed out loud and clapped my hands more while listening to an audiobook. There’s one unit where he outlines a scheme he developed to raise money for his Hare Krishna temple around Christmas time and it had me in stitches.
I can’t speak any higher about this book. As far as I am concerned, it is truly a masterpiece. Do yourself a favour and throw on those headphones. You will not regret it.

wow amazing life. tough and also funny stories

I only heard of John Joseph a few weeks ago on the London Real you tube channel. I watched the documentary iron mind and was intrigued by this character. I'm not really into punk music so did not buy it for that reason but John is the singer for punk band the Cro-mags.
All I can say is WOW. What a life, what a story and what a turn around against all odds.
John's start was a harsh one and it toughened him up and made him a streetwise kid in New York. He has been through drug abuse, the punk scene, and been an awol navy man. It's full of sordid thing's like sex, drugs, criminal activity including theft and violence and murder, but also very entertaining and somewhat humorous at times I the way John tells it. Then it talks about John as an iron man competitor and a vegan and hari krishna member.
If you like good biographies then I highly recommend this book. Its over 16 hours long and I was disappointed when it came to an end because it kept me enthralled.
I don't write many reviews here even though I have over 450 books and have been a member since 2012 so that should tell you something in itself, so enough reading reviews, it is worth your credit, so just bit it already!

Well it is a evolution

This book is unbelievable John Joseph goes through insane circumstances of his life, you really don't know what is going to happen in the next chapter. The book is absolutely heartbreaking at times, and then the next chapter can be hilariously funny "Santa Claus."

The best book on NYHC

What did you like most about The Evolution of a Cro-Magnon?

This is one of the most insane life stories I've ever heard in my life. Anyone who is in anyway interested in the evolution of the New York music scene in the 80s and 90s needs to hear this book.

What about John Joseph’s performance did you like?

John Joseph narrates the book so you can hear all the emotions and personal touches to the stories he's telling. It is simply the best audiobook autobiography.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

yes
