So good!

This book had me hooked right from the beginning! The story telling and writing are great.
I really enjoyed the audiobook, the narrators did a great job.

Great performance, good story

the Narrators performances were great. the story was pretty good. would've liked more behind the scenes political positioning and scheming. At times it seemed like they were skimming over all the juicy details and jumping to the next event. really enjoyed the story.

Disturbingly violent

Disturbingly violent, poor kids are so traumatized especially Lee. Way too young to be military leaders.

twisted honor

this book for me pushed the limits of loyalty and fairness in an exciting story. everyone loves a dragon school and I believe this one is among my favorite. I highly recommend this book for anyone who likes high stakes, adventure, and a little philosophy of right, wrong, fair, blood family against chosen family.

I will not read the 2nd book

not enough action for my liking. it did get better at the end. I didnt like how the story was told back and forth between the main characters. strong English accent.

Enjoyable

I was and remain team Lee,
I felt there were other sides to the story that were completely skipped over but regardless I still enjoyed the book. As of now I’m not sure if I will read the remaining books in the set- I tire of needing to purchase the “next book” to complete the story.

Well written even if it’s not my cuppa..

I saw somewhere in a review where this book was if House of Dragons and Fourth Ing had a spin off series with Hermione Grainger as the lead female …It’s well written. Definitely a lot of world building and political aspects. For me I wanted more fantasy and less politics. Truly it’s a well written book and the narration is excellent. I’m not going to rate a book poorly just because I didn’t care for it. But know that there’s a lot of layers and politics that accompany the story. I don’t know that I’ll go on with the series, but I’m sure others will absolutely run with this one.

Beautiful written

I loved this book. The characters are well developed and nuanced. The writing beautiful, and the story intriguing, suspenseful, and unpredictable.
I originally thought it was a fantasy book but I think it falls into the dystopian category. Although labeled as young adult, it is a sophisticated read- much of the plot coming from Plato’s Republic. I’m an old adult and found it to be an extremely satisfying read. Narration was good, and it can easily be listened to at 1.25. The narrator for Lee started out slow, but he ended up being quite good.

Was so excited as I saw many compared this to 4th Wing…

Let’s just say it is not even close. I found this book to be slow and boring. Nothing like 4th Wing except young people in school and dragons.. perhaps the next book will help me understand why many compare to the Empyrean series.

Excellent World, Characters, Pacing, and Politics!

Firstly, this isn't Fourth Wing. Fourth Wing is for readers who don't engage with media beyond the words in front of their noses.

This story has a soul, it has thought, and care, and research, and questions to dissect. Besides a few minor issues with the military structure and schizo-tech, the world makes sense. The characters care about their place in their society, rich relationships are formed between multiple people, and a compelling tale and stirring questions unfold at a good pace.
