Resumen del Editor

From the author of The Dragon’s Blade Trilogy and the narrator of The Witcher series, comes the start of a new dragon rider epic combining the best of Eragon and Pern with the hard magic of Brandon Sanderson and Will Wight.

Holt Cook was never meant to be a dragon rider. He has always served the Order Hall of the Crag dutifully, keeping their kitchen pots clean.

Until he discovers a dark secret: dragons do not tolerate weakness among their kin, killing the young they deem flawed. Moved by pity, Holt defies the Order, rescues a doomed egg and vows to protect the blind dragon within.

But the Scourge is rising. Undead hordes roam the land, spreading the blight and leaving destruction in their wake. The dragon riders are being slaughtered and betrayal lurks in the shadows.

Holt has one chance to survive. He must cultivate the mysterious power of his dragon's magical core. A unique energy which may tip the balance in the battles to come, and prove to the world that a servant is worthy after all.

About the Creator

Hailing from the wet and wild west coast of Scotland, Michael enjoys writing stories as sweeping in scope as the ancient landscapes he grew up in. His writing is known for rich character arcs, tight pacing, and layered magic systems. Songs of Chaos is his love letter to the dragon rider sub-genre, drawing inspiration from the classics like Pern, Dragonlance, and Eragon and combining them with the harder magic systems of Branden Sanderson and Will Wight, creating an epic tale all ages can enjoy.
Michael is also ‘that guy’ who enjoys-well, enjoyed-discussing the mad fan theories of Game of Thrones even more than the books or show, and knows more about World of Warcraft than is probably healthy.

About the Performer

Peter has been recording short stories, abridged, and unabridged audiobooks since 1993 and has recorded upwards of 300 titles from authors as diverse as Iain M Banks, Andrzej Sapkowski, Claire North, Neill Gaiman, Kate Atkinson, Mo Hayder, and Robert Louis Stevenson. His recordings cover a wide range from factual, technical books through historical fiction and science fiction, to mystery thrillers, epic fantasy and biographies. His first recorded short story was "Ansell" by EM Forster for the BBC. Most recent recordings include: Ascension by Nicholas Binge, Defiant (Songs of Chaos Book III)by Michael R. Miller, and in the shortly to be recorded list, The Observant Walker by John Wright and The Prophet & The Idiot by Jonas Johnasson.

great story!

if you're looking for a great adventure this is a good one. I found it similar to Eragon. I can't wait for the second one

Better than eragon

I absolutely adored this book! Best dragon book I’ve read since the inheritance series! The character development so great! I am anxiously awaiting the next one! Plus the narrator is interesting!

Amazing!!

This book was amazing! A completely original story that kept me glued to it. I picked this book out because it had good reviews. I wasn't sure what to expect but I absolutely loved it!! I will be listening to all of them and his previous series. I'm also going to buy the books as well.
I was also impressed by the reader. The voices he gave each the characters in the book were perfect. He had a great flow and I really enjoyed listening to him read. I hope he reads the next one!

Decent

There were several things to the story that I liked and a few minor things that I did not. Let me start by reviewing the narration. The narrator could, I think, have been better. He didn't do a bad job but, I wasn't impressed as I have been with other narrators. Perhaps I have been spoiled by John Keating and Nick Podehl but, Peter Kenny was just that, a reader. Other narrators complement or even bring a story to life. I just didn't feel this was the case here. I will say again though, Peter Kenny didn't do a bad job.
Now I will touch on the things that I liked and disliked about the book in a list form.

LIKES
1. I love dragons and feel as though every book with a dragon in its contents should do them their proper justices. I feel that this book nailed a proud perspective of dragons. I did not feel like the dragons in this book were a plot device, as I have seen in other books, to lure in readers or add flavor. These dragons acted as, I think, a dragon should and were a big part of the main plot.
2.The magic system is well thought through and explained. This really strengthens the story and enriches it.
3.The plot was very interesting. I find myself wanting the next book. I would go into more detail but, I don't want to spoil things for those about to read this book.
4. I really liked some of the inward struggles the characters dealt with. Moral struggles really added to this book, in my opinion.

DISLIKES
1. I like some of the inward struggles of the characters. However, some I felt were overdone. The burden of responsibility is good and enriches a story. However, if a character constantly second guesses themselves or their decisions too much it becomes annoying. The same holds true for the phrase "what if?". Some "what if" questions can be a good thing. Some in this story were just plain annoying.
2. Teens. I feel like, for the most part, the teens in this tale acted as though real teens would. However, sometimes I caught myself yelling at my audiobook calling the main character an idiot. If you are a person that likes books where the main character wins by cunning, cleverness, and good decision making, this book is NOT for you. The main character progresses by a series of bad choices, dumb luck, and plot. I feel as though any competent villain could have sneezed and purely by accident have won. However, the plot always wins.
3. The magical system was great but, the magical abilities themselves were underwhelming. Honestly, I feel that "Consecration" was a direct rip-off of the same ability in World of Warcraft and other video games I have played. This was unoriginal and downright infuriating.
4. Let's talk about bugs. The story of how the bugs came to be was a very good part of the story. However, I think the author could have spent more time describing them. Some of the bugs are described in a fight on the way to the main objective. However, in the big battle, some of the bugs are given names only and no other description. I found myself wanting to skip the battle entirely due to this annoyance but, plodded through anyway. The villain or threat is just as important to a story as the hero. I felt underwhelmed yet again.

Overall, I feel, this book is decent. It could have been excellent with a few minor easy changes.

Great book!

I throughly enjoyed this book! The story was fantastic! I read the Eragon books and I have to say I think I might have enjoyed this one a little bit more. I’m going to take a chance on the authors other series while I wait for book 2.
I wasn’t super thrilled with the narrator, though he wasn’t the worst I have heard by any means.

A magnificent tale but...

This story is wonderfully written and read, a magnificent tale of coming of age, of magic, of dragons, and of a world seemingly gone mad, where the impossible becomes possible and those fighting to do the best they can for it while caught up in the tumbling wheeling tides of war and the machinations of the powerful

That having been said I feel i must point out that this story is less original then it first seems, as a number of the tales story beats and indeed even very themes will seem eerily familiar to anyone who has ever played the video game 'dragon age: origins' the SCOURGE very easily are obvious analogs to the darkspawn albeit in a creative and creepy new form, the author even refereed to the illness spread by them as the BLIGHT ffs

Far from being a bad thing this is quite good as honestly Bioware did a poor job of telling there story, Mr. Miller took the bare bones of the tale they were trying to tell and used them to create a concise narrative with none of the plot contrivances, character inconsistency and overall narrative dissonance that plagued dragon age

there is of course the possibility that mr. Miller has never had any exposure to the dragon age franchise of games and stories and this may be simply a coincidence but even if so...

if you liked Origins, but thought that it could have been more then this book is most certainly for you because everything bioware screwed up, this does right

eragon meets Dragon trope adds in great magic.

this story has nothing new. its troppy A.F and follows a very clear well trodden path. there are no big reveals , the "presentation of the guns" were obvious and it is very traditional . that being said, it is well written and read. its a great listen to while crafting or crocheting on the couch. it would be a great YA book first fantasy book, but also enjoyable for the long time reader. enjoyable fluff story with no romance, thank gods! worth the purchase.
