Tim was a beautiful young man with the mind of a child. Mary Horton was a lonely and bitter middle-aged spinster. They were outcasts in a cruel, unbending world – until their lives were joined and forever altered by the forbidden promise of a very special love.
Only occasionally do I feel a bit sad when a book ends - but this is one of them. I like books that I can really think about between listening and this is one of them. Really beautifully written and extremely well narrated by Kate Hood. Would highly recommend.

I enjoyed the book as a lifelike happening and concern for a fellow human being.
I struggled to finish this book. It is just not my sort of story. I felt the narrator had a bit of a plum in her mouth when she didn't really need to. e.g. when she was speaking for the doctor.
A story full of warm characters that challenges convention in any time. This is the first book of Colleen McCullough's I have read - it did not disappoint!
