Publisher's Summary

A sophisticated, pause-resistant double love story spanning 40 years - an unforgettable Brief Encounter for our times.

It is 1960. When Jennifer Stirling wakes up in the hospital, she can remember nothing - not the tragic car accident that put her there, not her husband, not even who she is. She feels like a stranger in her own life until she stumbles upon an impassioned letter, signed simply "B", asking her to leave her husband.

Years later, in 2003, a journalist named Ellie discovers the same enigmatic letter in a forgotten file in her newspaper's archives. She becomes obsessed by the story and hopeful that it can resurrect her faltering career. Perhaps if these lovers had a happy ending, she will find one to her own complicated love life, too. Ellie's search will rewrite history and help her see the truth about her own modern romance.

A spellbinding, intoxicating love story with a knockout ending, The Last Letter from Your Lover will appeal to the readers and listeners who have made One Day and The Guernsey Literary Potato Peel Pie Society best sellers.

Exceptional!

Would you listen to The Last Letter from Your Lover again? Why?

Yes, it is so moving, the characters are so real, the plot so well developed.

What was one of the most memorable moments of The Last Letter from Your Lover?

When I learned that Boot was the librarian.

Which character – as performed by Susan Lyons – was your favorite?

Boot

Who was the most memorable character of The Last Letter from Your Lover and why?

Jennifer. So much more time is spent with her. And she drove me mad with how she treated Boot. I wanted to shake her.

Any additional comments?

The book got off to such a slow start, with no action for so long, that I got bored and nearly put it down for good. But boy am I glad I didn't! It ranks as one of the more memorable books I have ever read.

Any additional comments?

A heart-warming story about love lost and found. Great present story with strong ties to the past.

Loved the story; loved the narrator!

Classic love story - well read - great listen! Just as good as "Me Than You" - different, but just as well written and read. Thoroughly enjoyed and highly recommend!

Boring, predictable, and drawn out story!

This book wasn’t for you, but who do you think might enjoy it more?

Someone with more patience than me.

What was most disappointing about Jojo Moyes’s story?

I love books - reading and listening to books. It is rare that I do not finish a book, but I could not finish this one. The storyline was not only boring, but predictable and sooo drawn out! I kept thinking it would eventually go somewhere but it did not! I did not care what happened 40 years later so deleted the book.

How could the performance have been better?

Susan Lyons is always a good narrator. Her voice was the only thing pleasant about the book.

You didn’t love this book... but did it have any redeeming qualities?

Just the narrator

Any additional comments?

I kept thinking this book would get better and wasted a lot of time listening in hopes that it would. This is my first review - I just felt compelled to give my opinion because it is the opposite of the positive reviews I read before buying this book.

Fabulous!!!!! Just Fabulous

The only other JoJo Moyes book I had read prior to listening to The Last Letter from your Lover was Me Before You, which I really enjoyed. However, this book took me through a deep range of emotions and I was entranced. Heartbreak and triumph, happiness and sadness. Wonderful characters and wonderful, real relationships. This is a great story and the writing is beautifully and artfully done. Bravo! Can't wait to read One plus One.

Love Stories with a Twist

Two star crossed couples, two different time periods, same problems! This story was captivating because the characters were so well developed. I became so engrossed in their lives, I found myself worrying about them when I wasn't listening. Definitely worth listening to/ reading.

Wonderful love story

Any additional comments?

This is the best of Jojo Moyes' books in my opinion. Even better then her two books which are presently on the NYTimes best seller list.
Susan Lyon's performance is simply wonderful!

Beautiful story♥️♥️♥️

I loved this book from start to finish! I wanted it to go on forever but found the story so compelling that I simply couldn't savor it! This may be a repeater and that is rare for me! I've listened to several of Moyes books and liked them all but this is by far my favorite. It had such a mature feel to it--for lack of a better word. I'm still so heartsick that it is finished and feeling very bereft, as I feel I have been on this journey with Jennifer. Her evolution as a woman finding her strength was so satisfying. I felt such a sense of pride for her. I also loved that B was the "anti-hero", yet such a strong romantic male character. I am actually finding it difficult to write a meaningful review presently. Hopefully that, in and of itself, says enough. I started recommending this book halfway through (something else I rarely do). I can only say at this point... Listen to this touching, epic love story!!! I don't think you will be disappointed and I hope you will be as swept away as I was! I apologize for the disjointed review!

Another fabulous Moyes story

This is another fantastic love story by Moyes. The only glaring problem is the editing. Several last words in chapters are abruptly cut off rolling immediately into the next chapter. Irritating, but not bad enough to diminish the overall effect of the story significantly. Narrator’s voice is absolutely lovely.

Hmmm

I listened to this book and found it confusing to follow. It did not catch my attention and keep my attention. I do wonder if I would have read it, if I would enjoyed it more.
