Fun 2 hour novella

The Book Case is a 2011 release about a much younger John Corey, well before Plum Island the first novel in the series. The young NYPD Detective John Corey solves a crime mostly with logic. Nelson DeMille writes and Scott Brick narrates; perfect!

DeMille, one of my favorite Authors

Would you listen to The Book Case again? Why?

It is rare for me to re-read a book. This book was as good as his others. Only problem for me was I wanted it to last longer. Once I finish one of his books, it's hard to find something that I want to read. His dialog goes from serious situation, to a hilarious remark. I think he is a brilliant writer and and never gets boring.

They never disappoint

Nelson DeMille, Scott Brick and the character they both bring to life are simply the best! I love the look back AND getting something to tide me over until The Panther is released.

Great short story

The only problem I had with this book is that I wish it was longer.

I love the John Corey character and have been waiting (not so patiently) for another one of his books to come out so when I found this one I thought I would give it a go even though it was less than 2 hours long.
It was a fun quick paced story full of the John Corey trade mark smarta#* sarcastic remarks and dry humour.

Really good short story

I really enjoy the Jon Corey series and this iteration, while extremely short was very good. I cannot think of a better Narrator/Character association than Scott Brick as Jon Corey - in every one of the books there are numerous laugh out loud moments to go along with intense detective/thriller story lines. This particular short story is of Corey before he came to work for the anti terrorist task force, back when he was an NYPD detective. As you can imagine the plot cannot be too complicated in this one as the story is less than 2 hours - it is however an interesting story line nonetheless. I wouldn't recommend using a credit since it is so short but if you are looking for an enjoyable short story in between longer novels then I would recommend getting this one.

A bonus story!

I have really enjoyed the John Corey series, especially with Scott Brick as the narrator. His voice just fits the personality of the detective perfectly. This is only a 2 hour story and it is very good. I was hoping a new novel would have come out since the Panther, so I listened to this for a "fix." Even though it is short, it is fun to listen and witness Corey's humor as he solves a crime. It was actually fun listening to a story than I was able to finish quickly instead of listening for 15 hours. If you want a quick treat, it is worth the time.

Who doesn’t love a funny, lovable, wisecracking detective?

Almost as good as Plum Island. The character is portrayed with his usual sarcastic wit & humor which I absolutely LOVE! Well written by Nelson DeMille. How could it not be good? Amazingly narrated by Scott Brick as usual. Scott Brick completely morphs into this character. I listened to it straight through to the end on a gloomy afternoon. Made me laugh out loud numerous times. I love this fully faceted & well developed character & plan to listen to every book in this series. Who doesn’t love a funny, lovable, wisecracking detective? Good mystery without a bunch of unnecessary characters confusing things & bogging down the storyline. I hated for this story to end. Get this book. It is worth every penny! I hope this is helpful.

Who Knew?

A great to-the-point detective story. There is little extra. Who knew DeMille could write like this? Scott Brick, who's voice is synonymous with John Corey's cynicism, did a great job as always. DeMille's sense of humor also comes through: "a flasher on the corner..." Witty!

Loved the Book..................

Would you listen to The Book Case again? Why?

I loved listening to the story as I was driving to/from my husbands home. I love Nelson DeMille and have bought several of his books.

Who was your favorite character and why?

John Corey because he is a wonderful detective and Nelson DeMille make the characters alive.

What about Scott Brick’s performance did you like?

He put good character into the character if that makes sense but he made John Corey more believeable and with Nelson DeMille books, you have to really believe what is going on and then you really wonder if what happens in the book hasn't actually happened.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

I never really laugh or cry however I was wondering if things were real in the book that it was actually happening in our own world.

Any additional comments?

Love Nelson DeMille and will probably buy the next audible.com book from him.
