Publisher's summary

The year 2060 is drawing to a close, and Thanksgiving is just around the corner. It's a time for loved ones to come together. But sometimes the deepest hatreds seethe within the closest relationships, and blood flows faster than water....

For Lieutenant Eve Dallas of the NYPSD, the job is a useful reminder of what she has to be grateful for this season. Hosting Roarke's big Irish family for the holiday may be challenging, but it's a joyful improvement on her own dark childhood.

Other couples aren't as lucky as Eve and Roarke. The Reinholds, for example, are lying on the floor of their Downing Street apartment, stabbed and bludgeoned almost beyond recognition. Those who knew them are stunned - and even more heartbroken by the overwhelming evidence that they were murdered by their own son. Twenty-six-year-old Jerry hadn't exactly made a good impression on all the bosses who fired him or the girlfriend who dumped him - but they didn't think he was capable of this.

Turns out Jerry is not only capable of brutality but taking a liking to it. With the money he's stolen from his parents, and a long list of grievances, he intends to finally make his mark on the world. Eve and her team already know the who, how, and why of this murder. What they need to pinpoint is where Jerry's going to strike next.

Good but not Great

I love this series. I know it's hard to make each book spectacular in a series with 37 books. This one seemed to be formatted a bit different though. There was less Eve & Roarke & a lot about the killer. I missed the side stories of the other characters. It seemed to me that Eve has lost some of her edge in this book and is getting softer. I like to see Eve as her usual kick ass self. I just wish there was a bit more about the other characters and Roarke's family comes to visit and we don't see much about them either. It was mainly Eve and the bad guy. Other than that it was a good listen, wanted more edge and action.

Thankful

I love this series. Writing reviews is not something I am great but I felt I had to with this book. So many people had said they didn't like it, or they just knew it was ghost written. Yes it was a different format then the other books, yes we didn't hear from everyone during the course of the book. All the main characters were there, and support characters are just that support characters they don't have to be in every story every time. Because Robb did a different format in this book than others she did not need to have every supporting character in the book which I know upset some people. Everyone showed up and gave their support when needed in this book.

I didn't think that Eve and Roakes relationship seemed any different. I know some people that reviewed the book felt as though the relationship has changed. They have been married for a little bit now you can't be in the honeymoon phase forever. Characters have to change and develop. I think it shows they have grown together. That Eve is comfortable in her life and where she is in that one.

Again I enjoyed this book. I would recommend this book in the series to anyone. This book and the series has everything I could want. Susan Ericksen is another great performance. She brings every character to life.

My only issue is now I have to wait for the next one.

EXCELLENT WRITING!

I used to read the books and they were most of my library. An unforseen illness took the majority of my eyesight and Susan Erickson brings them to me all over again in such vivid detail! Y'all make an extraordinary team! when waiting for the next book in the series I reread them from the beginning each time picking up something I missed before. Thank you!

Another great In Death book!

What did you like best about this story?

I loved seeing some old characters, and I always love getting back into Eve's head. The only thing I wasn't loving about this one was that we seemed to be in the killer's POV quite a bit more than is normal.

From the POV of the Killer

In Thankless in Death, one experience the story from the POV of the killer ...and let me tell you, it's brutal , raw and VERY interesting.

The murderer is what in 2020 one call an entailed millennial gone terribly wrong.

Susan Ericksen was as always phenomenal.

Unbelievable!

Have you listened to any of Susan Ericksen’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

One of Susan's best performances.

Any additional comments?

To say that the series just keeps getting better is really an understatement. This particular installment of the futuristic murder drama pulls out all the stops. The author, through the narrator, brings so much emotion to the story that I could not stop the tears in some sections of the narration, tears of happiness as well as regret.

When you couple a truly despicable villain with a main character that is strongly moral, the interplay makes for a dramatic story. In this case, the villain appears to be a normal guy who simply lost control... until the story develops and shows his true character. He's easy to detest. On the other hand, you have Eve Dallas and Rourke who take on evil on a regular basis and become their own superhero team. The interesting thing is that they come across as real people, despite the circumstances, and the reader can easily identify with their story (despite the interesting backgrounds of both characters and the financial status of the handsome Rourke).

While the reader can certainly enjoy the stories on their own, it is truly an experience to watch the characters develop over the series. The readings by Susan Ericksen are frankly amazing. She develops each character, including accents and inflections, throughout the series. It's also amazing the level of detail built into the plot. Each time that I think Robb can't possibly beat a particular storyline, she surprises me with yet another installment. Hopefully this series will continue well into the future.

Great story theme, but dragged out

The concept of this story is great, but mechanics of it just seemed to drag on
But I love Eve Dallas and keep reading on
