Publisher's summary

Daniel Bradford, a poor young Brit, is separated in a cruel twist of fate from his sister, Lyna, and left to rot in the infamous Dartmoor Prison. His only hope for escape comes when he agrees to a seven-year indenture in America. But he discovers he had traded one imprisonment for another under a cruel and exacting master, Sir Leo Rochester.

But eventually, Daniel marries a young woman, Holly Blanchard, and they settle near Mount Vernon, Virginia. Daniel meets George Washington and experiences firsthand the taste of freedom sweeping the land. Then tragedy strikes and Daniel moves his family to Boston, where he prospers and meets Sam Adams, the flaming patriot for independence. Bound by his loyalty to England, he struggles as he sees two of his sons caught up with the Sons of Liberty.

As the storm clouds of revolution begin to gather, family and friends must take sides as the Colonies are inexorably swept into battle at Lexington and Concord. Daniel, too, must decide his loyalties, not only politically, but deeply personal as well.

Sound the Trumpet

I truly enjoyed this audiobook. I listen to it over my car's audio system while on vacation. Gilbert Morris is a wonderful story teller and has included his fictional characters into the America's history so that there is realism and learning combined. The narration was excellent and together with the varied voice characterizations and inflections gave a mental picture as though you were watching it. Great all the way around. I wish you would do more Gilbert Morris books

Great story, excellent read!

This is a great story definitely worth taking the time to read. I thoroughly enjoyed it and the narration is also very good. It’s also a very timely story to reflect upon history. I would also like to note that the author is a wonderful person. I have read many of his books. They kept me comfortable when I was recovering from a long sickness in the early 2000s. This author even took the time to correspond with me once over the phone when I was at Healthsouth rehab Center, in Colorado Springs for a very long extended stay. He lives in the same manner of spirit that he writes.

Excellent! Enthralled with this story

Captivating Christian fiction, first rate! The characters are so well developed, true to the Christian faith & the Bible. This was far better than most of the audiobooks I spend credits on. Instant fan of Gilbert Morris & long adored this narrator, Robert Whitfield.

This was my first gilbert morris and I enjoyed every bit of this story. Engaging plot, characters, action!!! This is one of the best stories I have read/listened to in over 4 decades!
The narrator was superb. Varying the voices with an uncommon agility.
Absolutely a must read/listen for anyone interested in serious fiction.

Historical and Interesting

Wonderful novel for children and adults. Gave insight as to how hard life was at the beginning of America, and the struggles they faced. This had a wonderful Christian base, yet was not preachy; it interwove values and commitment.
