Story
Welcome to Paradise. Epic battles of good and evil are happening all around us. Today that battle comes to town with the sound of lone footsteps clacking down the blacktop on a hot, lazy summer afternoon. The black-cloaked man arrives in the sleepy town of Paradise and manages to become the talk of the town within the hour. Bearing the power to grant any unfulfilled dream, he is irresistible. Seems like bliss... but is it? Or is hell about to break loose in Paradise?

Story
The story of how I, Julian Carter, and my precious two-year old son, Stephen, left Atlanta Georgia and found ourselves on a white sailboat, tossed about like a cork on a raging sea off of Australia's northern tip in 1963, is harrowing. But it pales in comparison to what happened deep in the jungle where I was taken as a slave by a savage tribe unknown to the world. Some places dwell in darkness so deep that even God seems to stay away.

But a terrible secret has been closely guarded for centuries: Every single soul walking the earth, though in appearance totally normal, is actually dead, long ago genetically stripped of true humanity.

New York Times bestselling author Ted Dekker teams with Tosca Lee to create this gripping thriller set in a desolate future. Many years have passed since civilization's brush with apocalypse. The world's greatest threats have all been silenced. There is no anger, no hatred, no war. There is only perfect peace... and fear. Story
As believers, our walk with God is motivated by hope, not the bland, vague notion most people have, but the expectation of an exotic, pleasurable inheritance that guides us and fires our passion...or, at least, should. Ted Dekker has written an expose on the death of pleasure within the Church. Because many of us have set aside hope and the inspired imagination that drives it, Dekker says we have been lulled into a slumber of boredom, even despondency.

My first and last Dekker book. Not my cup of tea.
The narrator was fantastic! The story, in my flawed opinion, was not. I am two hours in and will proceed no further. Listening to Dekker's book I find myself rather depressed with no hope of the book taking a turn for the better.
Call me six years old, but with a title like "Showdown" I would have anticipated a little more acting of the forces of good, but there has been narry a strong, virtuous character yet. The most robust character in the story is a wart eating, eyeball plucking Jesuit with a pocket full of vaseline that he habitually forces people to ingest. I didn't know that I was in for a Stephen King book when I bought this, and it is my fault for failing to research Dekker. Don't make the same mistake as me. Do your homework.

Great Story, but...
My apologies for words which may appear personally attacking, however, I must admit my disappointment with the styles of 'voice'. I heard a mocking sarcasm from powerful characters which rendered them insipid. I endured the entire audio book because I appreciate Ted Dekker's depth of truth and spiritual imagination offered through each book I've heard thus far, and because I was confident his message would be made clear.

Loved the book... Not the narrator
I enjoyed the narrator of Ted Dekkers Circle trilogy. I did not like this narrator as much as he tried to sound like a girl for the female characters.
