Publisher's Summary

When Caroline Wimbley Levine learns that her mother, Miss Lavinia, has supposedly gone mad, she leaves the big city bustle of Manhattan and returns to Tall Pines Plantation. Caroline originally left Tall Pines to escape her feisty, eccentric mother and her drunken brother, Trip, but when Miss Lavinia dies, Caroline is forced to come to terms with her family's troubled history as well as her failing relationship with her husband. As Caroline reminisces about her past rebelliousness and her childhood, she realizes that her father's sudden and tragic death many years before served as a catalyst for the family's disintegration. Caroline and Trip also learn that their seemingly selfish and self-assured mother was not so uncaring after all.

It's okay

This book is pretty typical for the author. Just about the entertainment level I was looking for. However, I am EXTREMELY, frustrated by the narrator's mispronunciation of Edisto...it is the name of real river and an island in SC. I don't understand why the narrator was not corrected on this. It is pronounced ED ist o (emphasis on first syllable). This was just a distraction for me throughout the book. I've experienced this with other regional books too. Don't understand why the authors don't review it.

Abridged!!

I prefer Robin Miles performance for Dot Frank books, but the most disappointing part is the book is abridged. Unfortunately, I missed that fact upon purchase; won't make that mistake again.

Great Story

The story was great. Too bad the performer or producer didn't take the time to learn the difference in Southern accents or at a minimum, learn the correct pronunciation of the Edisto considering its prominence in the story.

mispronunciation

Would you listen to Plantation again? Why?

No. The mispronunciation of the main river in this story was so annoying. It is not "idisto", it is ed-is-to.

Abridged

I loved this book. But somehow got the abridged version. Since I needed for a book club discussion I had to buy another whole book from Amazon. Make sure you're okay with abridged. I found I missed a lot.

Liked the original book better than audible

There were many different twists about Miss Levine and Millie left out of the story. The original story was much better than the audible version!
