Publisher's summary
In "Big Medicine", old Billy Dunbar has discovered the best gold-bearing gravel he had found in a year, but now he is down flat on his face in a dry wash, hiding because a small band of Apaches has shown up. It will be just too bad for him if they catch sight of his burrows or notice any of the prospect holes. He's going to have to figure out a pretty good strategy to get out of this one alive.
In "Dutchman's Flat", it all seemed a simple matter to the six men in the posse. A squatter named Lock had gunned down Johnny Webb in the Bon Ton, shooting him in the back. Now, once they caught him, there wasn't going to be any trial. However, as the posse heads out into the desert, it becomes only too clear that Lock knows the desert better than they do, and he knows how to pick them off one by one.

The 13 chapters of The Art of War, each devoted to one aspect of warfare, were compiled by the high-ranking Chinese military general, strategist, and philosopher Sun-Tzu. In spite of its battlefield specificity, The Art of War has found new life in the modern age, with leaders in fields as wide and far-reaching as world politics, human psychology, and corporate strategy finding valuable insight in its timeworn words.

It’s the summer of ’77 in New York City, and the only thing more unnerving than the scorching heatwave is the rampant murder, leaving washed-up homicide detective Richard Dietrich on edge. When Dietrich investigates a brutal mob hit the brass doesn’t want him to solve, he goes from phoning it in to getting in over his head. Caught up in a mysterious second homicide with an even more perplexing perpetrator, Dietrich starts to second guess his instincts—and his memory—as he searches for answers at the bottom of a bottle.

Story
The doorbell rings, just days after my beloved husband’s sudden death. I don’t recognise the woman on our doorstep, with her blonde highlights, a diamond bracelet identical to my own and a bouncing baby boy in her arms. As I show her inside, I notice her eyes grow wide as she takes in our spacious hallway, and the big squashy sofas that we all used to pile on. She glances at the silver-framed family photos and my little daughter hiding behind my skirts. She looks at me, her blue eyes serious. ‘I’m sorry’ she says. ‘I am your husband’s girlfriend. And this is his son.'

Story
When the call came it seemed like the answer to my prayers. My career as a voice actor had been over for months and me and my little girl Scarlet were living back at my mum’s place. I felt like a failure professionally—and with Scarlet having problems at school, as a parent as well. So, when I was asked to narrate a new book by disappeared novelist Philippa Roberts I jumped at the chance, even if it meant leaving Scarlet with my ex, Hugo, for a few weeks. Hugo, with his perfect new home and his perfect new girlfriend Saskia. But this isn’t a dream come true. It’s a nightmare.

Story
In Riders of the Dawn, a young gunslinger is changed for the better by a meeting with a beautiful woman. A classic range-war western, this novel features that powerful, romantic, strangely compelling vision of the American West for which L'Amour's fiction is known. In the author's words: "It was a land where nothing was small, nothing was simple. Everything, the lives of men and the stories they told, ran to extremes."

More than any other writer before or since, Louis L'Amour brought the American West to life. His action-packed stories deal with eternal themes: honor, deceit, passion, betrayal, loyalty, courage, love. His settings are historically accurate, his prose riveting, and his characters colorful: good guys, bad buys, toughs, roughs, sidekicks and saints.

Story
Louis L'Amour was the most decorated author in the history of American letters and a recipient of the Medal of Freedom. Now collected here in a single book are several of Louis L'Amour's finest Western stories the way Mr. L'Amour wrote them. At the time Louis L'Amour was writing, it was common practice for editors to rewrite the manuscript to fit certain publishing criteria. The text of The Strong Land has been restored, and the stories within it appear as Mr. L'Amour intended.

Story
A collection of two stories by beloved Western writer Louis L'Amour. In "The Sixth Shotgun", Leo Carver has been sentenced to hang for holding up a stage, killing the driver and the guard, and stealing the gold they were transporting. He is convicted despite his protests of innocence, but questions soon arise over what really happened. "The Rider of the Ruby Hills" is the story of Ross Haney, who rides into Ruby Hills country hoping to settle down. What he finds is an intense rivalry between the two big ranches and a rustler who is taking full advantage of the situation.

Story
It was a land where nothing was small, nothing was simple. Everything, the lives of men and the stories they told, ran to extremes. Shanghaied into forced labor on a merchant vessel, Charles Rodney dies aboard ship from repeated beatings, but not before deeding part of his ranch to Rafe Caradec, whom he hopes will protect his family.

Enjoyable Listening and I do not mind telling you
Short stories are hard to write effectively and Louis L'Amour does it better than most and leave it to William Dufris to tell it. Great day in the morning just loved this.

More Great Tales By Louis L'Amour
I don't know how he managed to pack such complete, power-packed stories in his short stories. He doesn't fill his stories with over-much detail, yet he had such a way with words you feel you are there, and not missing anything.
McQUEEN OF THE TUMBLING K - BIG MEDICINE - DUTCHMAN'S FLAT are about revenge, gold mining, and a squatter trying to outrun a posse. It takes a truly great story-teller to say a lot in a few words.

Great stories of the West
I've heard all the of these tales before and thoroughly enjoyed them, and they're all worth hearing time and again. A good story teller knows how to spin a yarn that captivates and draws you back even though you know what's going to happen. Louis L'Amour is that kind of story teller without a doubt. And William Dufris did a fine job narrating and producing different voices.
