Publisher's Summary

In the face of a crisis that sweeps an entire high-tech planet back to the age before electricity, Deni Branning's career ambitions have vanished. She's not about to let her dream of marriage go as well.

But keeping it alive will require extraordinary measures. Yesterday's world is gone. All Deni and her family have left is each other and their neighbors. Their little community will either stand or fall together. But they're only beginning to realize that, and trust doesn't come easily.

Particularly when one of them is a killer.

Best-selling suspense author Terri Blackstock weaves a masterful what-if novel in which global catastrophe reveals the darkness in human hearts and lights the way to restoration for a self-centered world.

"Pushing Middle Eastern mythology ad nauseam"
Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?

This book would probably be a good read/listen for Christians (in the general sense of the word, thus including Catholics as well), but, as the book advances, it starts to get nauseating with all its God pushing and insinuations that non-Christians are likely criminals or nearly worthless to associate with.

Has Last Light turned you off from other books in this genre?

If this book didn't push Middle Eastern mythology so hard, it would have been a more interesting read/listen. It did turn me completely off from ever trying any other Christian fiction book writer for sure.

What does Dick Hill bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

I'm already used to Dick Hill, mostly from the Jack Reacher series, and I find that he always brings intensity to the story with his narration as well as bringing characters to life by giving each their own voice and style.

Could you see Last Light being made into a movie or a TV series? Who should the stars be?

I can see it turned into a movie (at least as far as I got into the story). The premise has a lot of potential. If only they had added more diversity and had kept a more neutral tone throughout...

    Any additional comments?

It's interesting to see (figuratively speaking) the portrait of very religious inhabitants of the south of the U.S.A. loving their guns, threatening people with them, even hurting people with them and willing to kill as well while thinking of themselves as good Christians, which they equal to the only way of being good people. The whole idea of selling tools made for murdering as if they were candy is still quite baffling for the rest of the world.

    "Outstanding!"

Probably my favorite Terri Blackstock novel. And the narration was exceptional! Gripping story. Made me do a lot of soul searching.

    "Very Thought Provoking"

I've listened to this book before and each time I'm forced to look within and I see myself in this family. I can't even begin to imagine how I or my family would react to a catastrophe pic this magnitude, but I could only hope and pray I would be like Christ.
Excellent Thought Provoking Story, great performance.

This is my third time listening to this series. They are SO good! Really makes you wonder if you could survive if the outage really did happen.

"great story / did care for the reader tone"

we have throughly enjoyed every Terri Blackstock book. we liked this one as well, but my only complaint was it was hard to hear the reader. with the phone turned up as loud as it would go we still struggled to hear. we have listen to many books on audio and have never had this problem, so I am not sure what was going on. I would recommend this book. though.

    "Good listen"

I very much enjoyed this book. It took a few unexpected turns, which helps to keep your interest. Gives me alot to think about. Could I survive in those conditions? Could you? Look forward to the next book.

Finally a religious survivalist combo that works. Developed well and no contrived situations. Enjoyed it from start to finish.

"I want to have a discussion group around this book"
What didn’t you like about Dick Hill’s performance?

The constant whining and complaining of the children does get pretty annoying. I am absolutely certain I would not be able to put up with them AND the lack of air-conditioning. I think the narrator contributes to my distaste for the children. I do like the general narration, but when he tries to do women and children, ugh.

    Any additional comments?

There is something compelling about this series for me. I am fascinated by the images of life after the power goes out and how the family and the community respond to the intensive changes that surround them. I cannot help but put myself in some of these situations and wonder how I would react. Would I be mentally, physically, and spiritually strong enough to survive. The scenes in Walmart are especially frightening to me because I can so easily imagine something similar happening in the event of a natural disaster. The complete lack of authority and communication is stunning to me.

    "audio quality"

it is a great book with a good story. however this book (and I've listened to many audible books) seemed top have a bit poorer audio quality, and even when i turned the volume up I heard more background noise than the audio.
