Not her best but still enjoyable

KEEPING FAITH, one of Jodi Picoult’s earlier books, is the story of Faith, a child who is believed to see god/Guard which puts her in the middle of religious debates, though her parents are agnostic. She’s also thrust into a custody battle based of her father’s claims her mom is causing the hysteria.

I read this book years ago and this time listened to the audiobook. I was frustrated by the lack of accuracy of child custody/family court, probably more that other readers less familiar with the topic.

The female narrators were above average, but the male couldn’t do female dialogue. Still, I enjoyed the story even though I knew the ending.

The story was good . . .

but I didn't appreciate the foul language - that's why I usually only buy the Christian fiction books anymore.

Excellent book

I don’t like Picoult’s recent books, flat characteristics and rhetoric like she is running for office. But this, like second glance and leaving time, were very good. I admit I was concerned about someone Jewish writing a Christian like story. But in the end it was a great read. Painted a novel story using faith as a backdrop but not taking sides. The author should reread her old books like this and remember how to be unique.

Wet noises from the narrator the ENTIRE TIME

The story is good, but is painful to listen to because the narrator makes smacking noises constantly.

Excellent handling of a possibly sensational subject

I loved this book. Loved the characters. Loved the setting. Loved the mild suspense. Love her writing. I’m nearing being an enormous fan. I’m just afraid of a sad ending.

Great book, no audio issues

Other reviews mentioned issues with the audio and hearing swallowing sounds. I only noticed it maybe twice but it was not distracting like with other audio books where the narrator inhaled before starting every sentence.Maybe they re edited since those complaints?
I’m a big Jodi Picoult fan but had missed the one somehow. I probably overlooked it because it wasn’t as well rated as some of her other books, but I really enjoyed this story. Definitely worth a credit!

Kept my interest

There were a few parts that I was like “ok I can’t take anymore of this” (religious stuff) but she wrote it in a way that kept me interested. Props for that. I tend to gloss over religious stories especially when I don’t understand them and, due to that, they don’t make sense but this kept my interest and was a great story. I could definitely see where she could see how “guard@ was “god” and how a young kid could think it’s a female (clothing) so I was able to follow without thinking this is just pure fantasy. Good job Jodi.

Jodi always satisfies

Another wonderfully written book by Jodi Picoult. A nice intermixing of different viewpoints telling the story. The storyline was greatly woven between family relations and spiritual relations as well.

The narrator seemed a little less than polished though, there were very long pauses at times and at other times that distinctive breath was heard or starting and stopping of the narrator and stead of an ending of a chapter or some other proper reason for a pause.

All in all I still truly enjoyed the book and would highly recommend it to anyone.

should have 5 stars

I read some of the reviews before committing to this book. And it did have some luls and some abrupt chapter changes. But nothing to warrant a negative review. None of that has anything to do with the wonderful writing, or the outstanding narration. I highly recommend. It kept my attention the entire way thru. Another great book by J.P.
