Publisher's Summary

Toby Clement's third epic historical audiobook set during England's bloody and brutal War of the Roses. If you liked Conn Iggulden's Stormbird, you will love Toby Clements' Kingmaker novels.

Lent, 1469. The recent wars between the House of York and the House of Lancaster seem over. The Yorkist King Edward sits on his throne in Westminster while the Lancastrian claimants are in exile or under lock and key in the Tower. But within the family of York, there is discord.

The Earl of Warwick conspires against his king, and while to one another's faces they are all smiles, their household men speak in lies and whispers. No man comes to court unarmed. Thomas and Katherine have returned to Marton Hall, the only home they know.

But what lies buried in the past cannot remain so for long, and soon they are forced to take up arms once more in one of the most savage wars in history. The War of the Roses....

Superb historical series!

Yet again, Jack Hawkins brings the next Kingmaker book to life. He is brilliant. "Divided Souls" is just wonderful. The characters are developing and growing, along with all the intrigues of the English kingdom. An added extra is Catherine's growing expertise as a healer and surgeon-these scenes are amazing. I feel enriched by having listened to these wonderful stories. Please hurry up and write book 4, Toby Clements!!

Very enjoyable

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Thoroughly recommend the series so far, can't wait for book 4

What about Jack Hawkins’s performance did you like?

Jack has a slow deliberate voice that teases the listener and adds to the natural suspense of the plot. He makes the characters natural without too many accents and thankfully no comical voices.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

If only I could !

Any additional comments?

Toby is a natural story teller. The high level historical stuff is a backdrop to a very enjoyable tale about people but where Toby really goes the extra mile is making you feel what life must have been like for ordinary people, so many books concentrate on nobility. Granted some of the scenes are a little unrealistic and the surgical descriptions are not for the fainthearted but they fit the plot superbly and enhance the rich portrait of the time. Many thanks Toby, lets have the next one ASAP

Gripping

This is a very enjoyable book. An engaging, historical story in a series but can be listened to even if you haven't heard or read the others.

a tale for the ages

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

I would recommend it to anyone who will listen . so much in it for everybody .

What was one of the most memorable moments of Divided Souls?

a rollercoaster of highpoints . too many to choose one

Which character – as performed by Jack Hawkins – was your favourite?

Hawkins brings so much to the telling . to pick one character above another just is not possible .

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

from Edward having to flee . to john trying to come to terms with his adversity , Alice dying in flanders , also the tension created in the finale . these & so many others make selecting one moment an impossibility

Any additional comments?

from start to finish the entire series of the telling this so intriguing historical period was a sheer pleasure to follow .

Enjoyable

My son introduced me to this author , and as I like this period in history I have thoroughly enjoyed the books I have heard so far . The descriptions of the area and characters , are excellent as well as the way he treats his protagonists. Can’t wait to start the next one .

Another triumph and I cannot wait to start book 4

The only thing I dread from the next novel is not having another to follow it. Thomas and Catherine, along with John Stump, Jack and Nettie and the curious Little Rufus have become like friends and (spoiler alert!!) during the time of the imprisonment with the group separated and suffering in their own personal ways I was wrought with anxiety as can only be brought on by a fabulous author who brings his characters so close to you.
As we neared the end I simply dreaded the last few words, knowing without doubt that peace never seems to befall them and yet excited that I would get the opportunity to travel back to the war of the roses with them and learn more of their story.
Sincerely one of my most favoured authors of all time.
