In 1437, the Lancaster king Henry VI ascends the throne of England after years of semi-peaceful regency. Named "The Lamb," Henry is famed more for his gentle and pious nature than his father's famous battlefield exploits; already, his dependence on his closest men has stirred whispers of weakness at court.

A secret truce negotiated with France to trade British territories for a royal bride - Margaret of Anjou - sparks revolts across English territory. The rival royal line, the House of York, sees the chaos brought on by Henry's weakness and with it not only opportunity in the monarch, but also their patriotic duty in ousting an ineffectual king. As storm clouds gather over England, King Henry and his supporters find themselves besieged abroad and at home. Who or what can save the kingdom before it is too late?

This is my first Conn Iggulden book even though I'm a prolific consumer of historical fiction. This book was quite good. Looking forward to the rest in the series.

Great

I am huge fan of Historical Fiction/Non.. This was a first for this author and I am extremely impressed! The storytelling went well above my expectations. The details and creativeness actually put me in the same room as the characters.
The narration was the best I’ve ever heard. I enjoy how he altered his voice to bring the people to life.
I finished book 1 and just started book 2. I highly recommend reading Conn Iggulden’s War of the Roses entire series

I enjoy reading more than listening to Conn’s books
When I read his books I don’t hear annoying accents
The narrator’s Kent accent (Cade) is west country! Margaret’s accent is not good either.

Still the best
