Publisher's Summary

Little else in life is as dangerous as fire jumping. Flying past towering pillars of smoke, parachuting down to the edge of an all-consuming blaze, shoveling and sawing for hours upon hours, days at a time, all to hold the line and push back against the raw power of Mother Nature.

But there’s also little else as thrilling - at least to Rowan Tripp. The Missoula smoke jumpers are one of the most exclusive firefighting squads in the nation, and the job is in Rowan’s blood: her father is a legend in the field. She’s been fighting fires since her eighteenth birthday. At this point, returning to the wilds of Montana for the season feels like coming home - even with reminders of the partner she lost last season still lingering in the air.

Fortunately, this year’s rookie crop is among the strongest ever - and Gulliver Curry’s one of the best. He’s also a walking contradiction, a hotshot firefighter with a big vocabulary and a winter job at a kids’ arcade. He came to Missoula to follow in the footsteps of Lucas “Iron Man” Tripp, yet he’s instantly more fascinated by his hero’s daughter. Rowan, as a rule, doesn’t hook up with other smoke jumpers, but Gull is convinced he can change her mind. And damn if he doesn’t make a good case to be an exception to the rule.

Everything is thrown off balance, though, when a dark presence lashes out against Rowan, looking to blame someone for last year’s tragedy. Rowan knows she can’t complicate things with Gull - any distractions in the air or on the ground could be lethal. But if she doesn’t find someone she can lean on when the heat gets intense, her life may go down in flames.

"Don't waste your money; buy the book and read it!"
What disappointed you about Chasing Fire?

The narrator was boring and brought nothing to the story, can you say DULL!!! This audible was awful. I didn't even finish it past chapter 4 as the narrator made the book uninteresting ..

Would you recommend Chasing Fire to your friends? Why or why not?

I might recommend READING the book but not the audio book.

Would you be willing to try another one of Rebecca Lowman’s performances?

    NOPE!!!

You didn’t love this book... but did it have any redeeming qualities?

The story line might be better if someone else was reading it. Someone with enthusiasm and who would love reading to an audience.

"Love a book where I learn something"

A book rooted deeply in fire fighting is what this story is about, and then it is about love and hope and independence and mean heartedness too. Hey the book had it all. It sure kept me busy listening.

    "Exciting and Diverting"

If you love the mountains and deep forests, you will identify with the characters in this book. Terrifying descriptions of raging wild fires and the bold and courageous women and men who battle them, will keep you listening intently to Nora Roberts' Chasing Fire.

"Good ruined by foul language rampant immorality"
What would have made Chasing Fire better?

This is the first Nora Roberts book I have "read." The plot was intriguing and the story turned out to be very good. She did a great job of describing the life of smoke jumpers and issues surrounding their vocation that outsiders would never be aware of. Although its possible that these people cuss "like sailors." That potential reality is not necessary in order to keep the reader gripped by the story. Its definitely not likely that the majority would be as immoral as four legged animals as these characters are described. If so, I really don't need the details. I have read plenty stories that effectively create the reality of the environment and the deep characters of the people involved without being foul about it.

    Any additional comments?

I won't be picking up another Nora Roberts book.

    "intersteing and exciting romance"

I've liked all of the Nora Roberts books I've listened to so far . But some are still better than others . This one is one of the better ones, typical of NR, she has reseached a lot of background , this time about smoke jumpers, which makes the exciting story interesting too .

    "A really long twisting tale"

The story had so many twists and was so long it dragged in places. The narrator was excellent and the fire stories sounded well researched and detailed. My first Nora book, surprised me with its language and enabled me to understand her popularity. How she writes so many long books I'll never know.

Story was good BUT it was ruined by the poor narration of the story and bad performance of the characters.
Disappointed with the whole audio book. This is a first for me as I have until now enjoyed very much each of the Nora Roberts audio books.
