Publisher's summary

Todd, the youngest of four children, has a developmental disability that keeps him at home on the farm with his mother and father. One special holiday season, Todd hears an ad on the radio from a shelter looking for temporary homes for their dogs during the holiday week. When Todd's parents at last give in to his pleas for this charitable cause, the family is faced with an entire shelter full of dogs needing homes.

Using his special charms and gifts of persuasion, Todd encourages his whole community to help in the "adopt a dog for Christmas program" and, more importantly, teaches his family the true meaning of goodwill.

If you love dogs, Christmas and Wisdom...

I really enjoyed this. A very simple story. It will get you in the Christmas mood if nothing else will. I am sending this as and early christmas gift to my family who are all dogs nuts and christmas crazy...I will be listening again...too.

Let Christmas Melt Your Heart

A farmer's sad experiences with dogs that goes all the way back to his childhood and follows him to the war in Vietnam, and has haunted him for more than 40 years . . . well, it is evidence that a child still lives inside us all. This story, so different than all the other Christmas stories that I've listened to and loved, is all about the relationship between a man and his "slow" son. Maybe his boy is mentally retarded or autistic, it really doesn't matter. He is his son, and he wants him to learn to live in a "grown up" world. As he goes about trying to teach him responsibility and how to keep his word, he is surprised to discover that we are never too old to learn or to heal.

Love This Story

Any additional comments?

Love, love, love this story. It's so heartwarming. I fell in love with Christmas immediately and just had to read the next story about him right away. I highly recommend this book if you have a soft spot for dogs (don't tell my cat).

Speaks to the heart.

Would you listen to A Dog Named Christmas again? Why?

I would certainly listen to this again.

Which scene was your favorite?

When the wife asks the husband and when does Christmas end?

If you could take any character from A Dog Named Christmas out to dinner, who would it be and why?

I would take Christmas out. He is one of our uncelebrated hero's.

Any additional comments?

Loved this book. It really highlighted how much pets impact our lives.

Tugs at your heart but ends well

I love animals and this story is about a special needs boy a shelter dog and a war hero father who has memories of a war dog who died in service protecting him. Made me cry but ends well.

Heart warming dog story

Animals can intertwine with their humans and can bring an added meaning to life. This.book beautifully illustrates this relationship especially for a mentally challenged young man and his father.
