Publisher's Summary

An F-14 fighter pilot's top lessons for leading fearlessly - and bringing a team to peak performance

As an aviation pioneer, Carey D. Lohrenz learned what fearless leadership means in some of the most demanding and extreme environments imaginable: the cockpit of an F-14 and the flight deck of an aircraft carrier. Here, her teams had to perform at their peak - or lives were on the line. Faltering leadership was simply unacceptable. Through these experiences, Lohrenz identified a fundamental truth: high-performing teams require fearless leaders.

Since leaving the Navy, she's translated that lesson into a new field, helping top business leaders, from Fortune 500 executives to middle managers, supercharge performance in today's competitive business environments. In Fearless Leadership, Lohrenz walks you through the three fundamentals of real fearlessness - courage, tenacity, and integrity - and then reveals fearless leadership in action, offering advice on how to set a bold vision, bring the team together (as wingmen, not Top Gun mavericks), execute effectively, and stay resilient through hard times.

Whether you're stepping into your first leadership role or looking to get out of a longstanding rut, Fearless Leadership will act like your afterburner - rocketing you to ever-higher levels of performance.

Great Book

I was initially hesitant, as I figured this would be a book all about “girl power”, but I was pleasantly surprised. This book was fantastic and I really enjoyed it! Carey had her fair share of struggle and accomplishment and was able to overcome it all. Carey does a great job with the audio performance and the material was great and practical. Highly recommend!

Shout out to the Brian Buffini podcast for bringing me here :)

right on the money

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

It is incredible how the author managed to sum up so well the things I do and try to improve upon every day. She has organized what I have implemented from life in the trenches. Well done.

A great read

Love all the practical lessons on leadership in this book and the brutal honesty about issues that happen due to gender. I love the example she set for women who are going through similar frustrations in their career.

Nice story of perseverance.

I expected a book on leadership which this is not. Instead this is the story of the significant barriers the author faced on the road to becoming a female fighter pilot. I admire her courage, but the title led me to believe the book was about leadership.

Outstanding reading and leadership material

Initially, I have red that Carey Lohrenz was referenced while researching about Kara Hultsgreen’s accident. I had read Scott Kelly’s book and was curious as to find more information on the accident, since he says he had reported the problem a year early and nothing had been done of that regard.
Not only did Carey clarified the stall engine problem with the F-14, but it also gave me so much more.

I had been a manager, and at one point a Director of Engineering, for more than 17 years. At the end I became so frustrated with managing that went back to become sole contributor. I highly recommend this book to anyone aspiring to become a leader of any organization.

Very attractive.

I like this book for its female perspectives and it reveals several dialogues on how leadership should be approached. I also liked how she made this book very easy to follow and understand.

Fantastic!

This was exactly what I had been looking for in a leadership book. The military offers so many opportunities to learn about effective and impactful leadership. I found every chapter extremely engaging and began immediately thinking of ways I could challenge myself to be a fearless leader. I really like how the book broke down very specific ideas/principles on leadership and exactly how to apply them. This book was a recommendation from a friend that saw Carey speak in person and while I am so grateful they shared the book with me, I am now quite jealous I did not get to see her speak in person as well. Highly recommend this book!
