Publisher's summary

It was never going to be a fairy tale.

On the same day Jason King is set to become a father, Will Slater sees a 12-year-old boy on a street corner. There's nothing particularly alarming about the kid, but Slater has a sixth sense when someone needs help, so he steps in to protect.

After his vicious deliverance of justice enrages half the Boston underworld, Slater meets the whirlwind of chaos head-on. He made the choice to get involved, so he won't stop until the war is won. As King gets swept up in the madness from the supposed safety of Violetta's hospital room, their battles intertwine. And as the bodies pile and the scum of society seep from the woodwork, Slater confronts hidden truths he'd never learned: This boy he's protecting, this stranger, starts to remind him that family isn't always blood.

Great Portrayal of Fatherhood

Would not expect anything less from King and Slater than to be fearless protectors.
Enjoyed reading about the grit of Boston neighborhoods so typical of urban settings.
Regardless of circumstance all children deserve protection and love.

Interesting story

Now that they both are Father's we will see wherever this leads to. Off to the next book.

Same but different

This was actually one of my favorites in the series. It still had everything the K & S series is known for, but the story went a different direction. I thoroughly enjoyed this one. A lot of times an author seems to run out of stories or plots, the characters become one dimensional, but here we are, 9 books deep, and the characters evolve. The story keeps me hooked and I can't wait to see where they go with the new character and situation. Can't wait to start the next book.
