Publisher's Summary

Settle in with Top Chef host Curtis Stone as he discusses the complicated fundamentals of French cuisine in his signature Australian accent. First published in 1903, this work by Escoffier is still considered foundational to professional chefs and home cooks alike.

Bedtime stories are narrated by the world’s most celebrated voices and written with no beginning, middle, or end so you don’t stay up to hear what happens next. They're interesting enough to give your mind something to focus on but delivered in a way that encourages sleep.

This title is part of the Audible Sleep Collection, exclusive audio experiences created to invite relaxation and sleep. New and free for members.

Fell asleep as intended

I was suspicious as I like reading about cooking and food and yep this was delightfully distracting for my brain without being so distracting I couldn't sleep. In fact I'd even say I was lulled.

Delicious lullaby

This is a perfect bedtime story, I’ve fallen asleep quickly and easily, which is exactly what I was hoping for. I think it’s ironic that some reviewers are panning it for the lack of excitement, its stodgy style (it was written in 1903, so...), or Curtis Stone’s wonderfully and intentionally placid reading voice...that is the point: a gentle narrative to take your mind off the chaos narrative of this time in our world. Well done, Audible ... and thanks to Mr. Stone for tucking me in at night.

Don't expect to learn the Art of Cookery!

I tried this book for its one true intention - to make you fall asleep. However I was disappointed that when I woke up the next morning from a full night of beautiful sleep I did remember a single fact about Modern Cookery or anything else Curtis said. I'm not exactly sure what "cookery" is, are we referring to just cooking here or does the term encompass more? I'll likely never know, not from this experience anyway.

geniusly dull

I have often told others who couldn't sleep to read physics or history textbooks. This book was so ridiculously verbose and repetitive, It was equally hilarious and sleep inducing.
I cannot wait for a physics book next.

I Only Wish It was Longer

It seems like it ended abruptly but I can't be sure exactly how it ended because I was asleep. So that is good. But I do kinda wish we could have more since it is some good info and I really might end up making some of these recipes. I just remember at one point waking up and hearing something like "Turkish Aubergines" and then some ingredients and I fell immediately back to sleep. This and Pumpkin Stew are my faves so far of these Bedtime Stories. It is a really brilliant idea. I have actually bought a few other titles when they were daily deals just so I could play them at bedtime for sleep purposes. It just works great for me to fall asleep while listening to something that is fairly interesting but not a story that I will feel like I missed something important like I would with one of my regular audio books.

Really enjoyed this book

I am a trained cook so Escoffier is not a stranger and I own the book being read. I enjoyed the reading, went to sleep well. Then in the morning couldn't wait to listen to it again. It brought things about a book that I have studied into a different light. I wish the entire book were available this way.

Really good but difficult to hear for a vegan

I wanted to show my support with 5 stars, it was very well done, I loved the narrator's soothing voice. But I had a hard time with the content. I liked that it showed the care for the animals and how whacked the system is of killing young animals for their flesh but it was very sad and hard to listen to. I appreciate the artistry and they did a very good job on the overall performance.
