After endless years of fighting in a galaxy-wide war, the most decorated super-soldier of the Old Federation was granted leave, sliding into a stasis tube aboard a sleeper ship. The ship never reached its port, and the soldier woke up a thousand years later on an operating table. The Old Federation was gone, most planets hurled back into the Stone Age. A devastated Earth used spies instead of spaceships to compete against the tougher, richer worlds.

Paul McAllister, an aging military retiree, wants nothing more at this point in his life than to put the wars, cancer, and death of his wife behind him as he numbly glides into his final years doing the only thing he still enjoys – selling weapons and his services as a gunsmith on the gun show circuit of the American southwest. Driving down the road in the Mesilla Valley of southern New Mexico, sandwiched in the few hundred yards between the Robledo Mountains to the West and the Rio Grande to the East, Paul loses consciousness while returning home from a gun show.

The two become friends and comrades, their fates forever intertwined. They find themselves together in the prairies of 19th-century Texas, the bordellos of Civil War-era New Orleans, the Prohibition in the 1920s, the Great Depression, and the vastness of space.
But can they survive hardships through history, the enmity of their southern neighbors, and the Civil War to return to his home planet and exact his revenge?

Mostly Western with a dash of Aliens
Earthbound follows the adventures of a young man who is stranded on Earth. He tries his best to blend in and integrate into the culture of the American west. If they think he's a bit strange, well he does have an Irish accent.
Zeb as he's called, is an interesting character, but he isn't the only one. The story also follows frontier wife Anna and her children after a native American raid separates them.
Over all the story was interesting, but I found the sci-fi elements to be over shadowed by the Western story and characters. It's a hard genre to peg as Western readers may enjoy it more than sci-fi lovers.
The narrator was good, he kept the pace going and read long sections with no dialogue engagingly. But Dialogue is where this man shines. Especially with accents. And this story gave him plenty of accents to play with. Irish, German, Spanish, and even some southern gentleman.
On content: there is a good bit of violence, surprisingly little cursing, but I do need to mention the odd nature of the sexual content.
Like most Westerns there is mention of sex and brothels but this is still pretty clean. It comes no where near being erotic, and the most description we get is from a married couple on their wedding night.

Alien in The Old West, Wounderful Story!!
I was slightly apprehensive about Aliens and 19th Century old west, but Darn if the author made it work seamlessly!! The Author did a Wounderful job on the various Characters and the Narrator did a Excellent job on bringing the characters to life. Only problem with narration was when the narrator caught himself making a error you would hear him slapping something then start again. So badly want to continue with book 2 but Audible does not have it available at this time though book 3 is available.

A Great Listen
I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request, and have voluntarily left this review. The 19th century was not an easy time to live, especially for an alien. Mac is just looking for away home and trying to survive in this strange world. He meets some very interesting people on his adventures. Interesting characters, suspense and lots of action will keep you listen until the very end. Looking forward to book 2.

Not really a sci-fi or fantasy story
I was given a copy of this audio book to review - I listened to the first 30%, and then skipped ahead several times through the remainder to try and catch a point where the story got interesting. It was advertised as a western sci-fi story, and with the spaceship on the cover I was expecting some sci-fi. There is a small amount of sci fi, but mostly it is a western. The space storyline really wasn't the focus of the story, and only played a small part in the plot.
There was also a good bit of language, and "adult" scenes, which weren't explicit but were long enough that I had to skip forward several times to get through them, as well as many scenes of graphic violence like kidnapping, murder, and mutilation. Skipping through the story I kept landing on graphic disasters - not something I wanted to listen to or read. If it was a movie I would expect it to be rated "R" for sexual scenes, graphic violent scenes and crude language. I would not have chosen this book to listen to had I been aware of the content.
The story jumps between several storylines, which was a bit confusing in audio form as it seemingly went to a completely different storyline. The narrator did a good job of using different voices for the different characters, although the audio volume was a little lower than typical. I might listen to another book by this narrator, but will not read / listen to anything else from the author.

absolutely refreshing new theme and one that brings the historical locations alive. One of those can't stop listening audio book and followed by the great disappointments that it ended. Best Series Ever!
Two different alien races are stranded on earth unbeknownst to the other. We watch as they discover each other, struggle to remain undiscovered by humans, and survive the treacheries of Old West America. The author obviously put a lot of thought into the timeline. Old West America is the perfect time for “human-looking” aliens to enter American history. People from all over the world immigrated to the US during this time. It was not unusual to see people that looked and dressed differently than you. Immigrants spoke other languages and often had heavy accents that Americans had never heard before.
Earthbound introduces Llewellyn McDonald (aka Zeb), the patriarch of the McDonald clan. He is from the planet Thalia. As a result, he is bigger and stronger than most of the men of his time. He rescues a woman named Anna who was captured by the Comanche Indians. She has several children from whom she was separated when she was kidnapped. Zeb and Anna build a life together. They find joy in each other despite the struggles that they encounter.
Please note that there are a number of production mistakes (clicking noises and repeated phrases) in this audiobook. Don’t let that keep you from listening to the rest of the series. This is the only book that contains production errors.
After listening to the entire series, I am astounded that I have never heard of it before! This is my new favorite series by far!

Science Fiction in the Old West!
An alien lands in Texas during the 1800s… I was not sure what to expect but this turned out to be a great story, more western that sci-fi but the author blends the two concepts together perfectly.
A young alien is stranded on earth after his captor dies. With his limited knowledge of how to fly, he steals their spacecraft and manages to land in Texas where he hides the spacecraft and takes a job as a trapper’s apprentice.
The story follows Zeb MacDonald, as he is called on Earth, through the history of the old west as he goes from trapper to rancher. Mac’s wife Anna is a beautiful German woman who he rescued from the Indians. Anna, a strong independent woman turns out to be the perfect match for Mac. Their love and trust is so strong that Mac opens up about his alien origin to Anna, this strong connection draws you into their life. This is the first book in the Chronicles of the Maca series. I’m looking forward to book two.
The narrator is perfect, he does a great job with a variety of accents. The editing needed some improvement, if the narrator makes an error he claps twice and corrects the error. The error and clapping should have been edited out in the final production but unfortunately was not. This book was given to me for free at my request and I provided this voluntary review.

This book is out of my usual comfort zone but I have to say I really did enjoy it.
However the editing missed quite a few mistakes that should have been cut and the narrator highlighted them with a double click so should have been picked up post recording.
Apart from that it was well written and narrated xxxx
