Publisher's Summary

Two scarred souls: one physically, one mentally. Both on the mend, hiding from their pasts....

Mace Walker can't wait to get home.

Being buried deep undercover for the past two years, on the most complex case of his career, has torn him down physically and mentally. Now the FBI agent has come home to recover after having his leg badly injured from a gunshot wound. Arriving home late one night, his relief is short-lived as he's faced with a stranger pointing a gun to his head, acting like he is the one who doesn't belong there!

Colby Parks, a biochemist at the local university, had come to town a year earlier to escape an abusive relationship. She vows never to put herself in that situation again.

Then the perfect opportunity comes along: housesitting for Mace's sister while making the house she purchased habitable. But she couldn't anticipate this big snag: the one wearing the tight Levi's and worn leather jacket, looking like he had just escaped prison.

Being forced to share a house creates sparks between them in more ways than one. However, things take a turn when their pasts catch up to them, threatening to pull them apart forever.

I wanted to feel more be more have more

Updated and de-caveman. I read lots of Jeanne St. James' stories. I read this one years ago under its original name and then it was just a little something under-whelming about the two scarred people and the story they weaved together. I always felt like there were somethings missing from the story. I know. Its a short, what could be missing. Well, I feel with the new added pieces things don't seem so far off. These are two damaged souls, physically and mentally, that find each other in all of their messed-up-ness. The forge a connection with each other and they both find something new does not always mean hurt. But neither knew the way their past would comeback and try hard to take away the new they were working on building.

I found it very honorable that an author that was willing to go back an revise work that was already created and made it better. 'Banged Up' got a new title and an uplift to the drama, action, and intensity this quickie brought.

Narration was matching the story with clarity and the flow/cadence of the diction Easy to follow along and increase the audio speed. This was no slow pace ride. Things moved fast and the audio allowed the listener to keep pace, at their own pace.

Hear 2 beautifully damaged characters come to life

Another amazing set of characters and story from Jeanne St. James! I loved that she called the book Damaged. Both Mace and Colby have been damaged, but not broken, from their pasts. That is an important distinction to make, and St. James does it so well. B.B. Franklin brings both Mace and Colby to life.

Mace just wants to spend time with the only person that knows and loves him unconditionally, his baby sister. As an undercover agent, he's been more than physically wounded, but it takes getting shot and almost losing a leg, to get him to step back and try to heal. Instead of finding his sister, he finds Colby and a loaded gun waiting for him. In his own house, no less.

Colby's story is one that is, unfortunately, all too believable and common. She found herself in a very unhealthy relationship she didn't know how to get out of soon enough. But that's in the past. She's learned to protect herself. AND she's not going to make the same mistakes again.

So what happens when two lost souls gravitate together? What happens when both of their pasts come calling? You'll have to read Damaged to find out.

Damaged!

Mace and Colby compliment each other so well in this action, heat, and mystery packed story! From the moment it started I wanted to know more about Mace and I was not disappointed! Mace being this hot FBI agent and Colby a determined woman out to take care of herself. The slow burn and then explosive chemistry between Mace and Colby really made this a fun listen. B.B Franklin did a great job showing all the emotions throughout this book! I didn’t want it to end with all the twists and turns it took.

My Thoughts on Damaged

This was a great introduction story to a new author and narrator for me.

Main characters Mace and Colby have one of those extremely memorable first meets. That meeting set this listener up for a highly enjoyable story with suspense and action and lots of steamy moments. And at it's heart of course was a really good romance.

Colby was an overall great character that found strength in dark moments and came out the other side of her nightmare changed. She was smart and considerate and was just a great leading lady. Mace on the other hand had caveman moments that weren't endearing at the time but all the moments of kindness and protection and honor balanced out well. I ended up liking him when all was said and done.

I know I will be on the look out for more books by this author in future as this one was well written and the characters were ones you could get invested in. I also think the narrator B.B. Franklin is one I would be interested in hearing more from.

Another great book from Jeanne St. James. The story was awesome! I wasn’t totally crazy about B.B. Franklin’s narration, but the content of the book more than compensated. I have loved every book that I’ve read by this author, and look forward to reading more.

Mace and Colby!

Mace is an undercover FBI agent who was injured on his last assignment however the emotional damage runs much deeper so all he wants to do is see his sister and get some well deserved rest and relaxation.

Colby moved to town a year ago after escaping an abusive relationship. She has been staying at her friend’s house while she is away as renovations are being completed on her home. After her past, she is not about to trust any man who comes to her door so she greets him with a gun.

As they live together their chemistry grows until it ignites but will they open up and trust each other before it is too late?

This is a great story of two people who are damaged by their pasts but together they help each other heal. I thought the narrator did a great job of bringing the story to life. I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book from the author.

Great story!

Damaged is a steam story about Mace an undercover agent and Colby a biochemist. Love the way the author brought these two together and the intense emotions they felt at that moment. The narrator really brought Mace and Colby's story to life. Great writing, believable characters and off the charts chemistry make this a 5-star book.

An Actionpacked Romance!

This is a great story of Colby Parks and Mace Walker. While housesitting for a friend Colby is
woken up one night when a handsome hunk FBI Undercover agent lets himself in. Mace had been injured and had come home to recuperate.
This book has everything Suspense, plenty of Hot Sex, and Romance. A great story that has plenty to keep you entertained. We also have dual narration hearing from both Colby and Mace. The Damaged in the title refers to both Colby and Mace, being together they finally start to heal each other. Colby is a great character which keeps Mace on his toes.
We only have one narrator who manages to keep me attached to my earphones.

A good suspense filled romance.

Rating. Writing 3.5 / Narration 4 / Overall 3.75

This story had all the makings to be a great story. I really liked the concept and plot and overall I enjoyed the audiobook. Initially there were aspects that I did not enjoy.

In the first chapter the male protagonist, Mace, lets Colby wrongly assume that he was about to sexually assault her. He is an undercover cop who has been injured and has come home to convalesce and finds a strange woman in his house, so I accept that he had to use everything in his arsenal to ensure she was not there for revenge. What made me uncomfortable is that he was sexually excited during this initial encounter.

Colby has escaped an abusive relationship so it didn't feel real to me that after such a fearful initial encounter, she would very quickly be open to unclad fun times.

I did like the plot but it took me a few paragraphs to get past my discomfort of those initial criticisms.  Once I got past those however. I immersed myself into the story and did enjoy it. I am fine with erotica (this isn't the book for you if you are not) and enjoyed the bond growing between Colby and Mace.

The thriller aspect of this book was very good and had me more than a little tense at times. People are out to get Colby and Mace and their pasts come at them from all angles. I won't spoil this for you.

What I will definitely say about Damaged is that if you can get past that initial part then you will get to listen to or read a really good book.

I thought that B.B. Franklin did a sterling job as the narrator. She kept the story flowing at a great pace and the characters had clear voices. Franklin dealt with the sexual scenes without overacting them but still managed to instil the right amount of tension in every single part of Damaged.

I received this audiobook as part of my participation in a blog tour with Audiobookworm Promotions. The tour is being sponsored by Jeanne St. James. The gifting of this audiobook did not affect my opinion of it.

Damaged ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

I loved that Colby thought it was just a fling with Mace when it was obviously more to the relationship. Mace is a fab alpha I loved that he went to Colby's work wanting to see who Martin was I found it funny that he was jealous for no reason. The book keeps you thinking who is on the end of the phone when it rings. The relationship was smoking hot Jeanne St. James never lets you down. BB Franklin was great she told the story well and was easy to get drawn in. Another fab story by Jeanne St.James she is fast becoming my favourite.

Great Story!

I really enjoyed listening to this steamy book by Jeanne St. James. Colby and Mace come together in an unexpected way and had great chemistry from the very beginning. I enjoyed how the author reversed their roles in terms of Mace being jealous of Colby's work hours and co-workers. Colby was emotionally damaged while Mace was physically damaged and together they healed. I thought that BB Franklin did a good performance narrating this book I requested this review copy audiobook and have voluntarily written this review. I would definitely listen to more books by this author and narrator.

High action & Steamy!

This is my first Jeanne St. James book and it is definitely not my last. With just the right amount of suspense and steam, St. James has brought together two characters, each with their own damaged past. Mace comes home after being deep undercover with the FBI. He needs to ease back into his own reality and recover from a serious injury. When he walks into his house, he expects to see his sister, but instead meets Colby. Colby is house sitting for Mace's sister while renovating her own house. She is trying to start her life with a clean slate away from her abusive past. When brought together, will these two damaged souls be able to heal each other? I love these two characters, each showing how their pasts do not define their future. As the two grow close, and their attraction ignites with passion and steam, St. James creates a romantic suspense thriller you will not want to miss!

B.B. Franklin narrates this story and brings the action to life. She has a great pace, and I enjoyed her female voices. Her male voice was very good, but sometimes the differentiation between male characters in a scene was not clear. I did love her emotion and suspense filled inflections.
