Publisher's summary

The first book of D Day Through German Eyes has fascinated listeners around the world with its insight into the German experience of June 6, 1944. Now, book 2 contains a completely different set of astonishing German testimonies from the same archive.

These newly translated eyewitness statements by German veterans show the defenders to be determined but psychologically insecure, often deluded in their thinking, and all too human in their shock at the onslaught they faced. These unique interviews with German soldiers are a historical treasure trove of new insights, heart-stopping combat stories, and glimpses of wartime psychology that will absorb anyone with an interest in WW2.

Eye opening and very well done..clear and concise and I was taken back to all of the films that I have seen of that battle throughout the years. Made me think of how one sided they were.

Excellent

The random details contribute to the believability of these interviews. I was struck by the way these guys focused on a narrow purpose for what they were fighting for. The higher up their view, the more complex and nuanced. However, with the perspective of looking back, they always conclude with their duty and personal innocence. I think that is how most soldiers are with the exception of the criminals

Interesting and informative

This book expanded my understanding of the events around D-Day. In particular, the composition and quality of the static troops and the attitude of some of the local French population.

A must have for WW2 enthusiasts

I liked the German accents, when the interviewee was speaking. It seems to bring the story a little more to life. Compelling stories. Amazing!

What Did The Germans Think

Like the first book there was a great deal that I learned as not much is ever given from the losers point of view.

Why the german accent?

These are incredibly interesting stories, but why are they read with a strong german accent?
