Publisher's Summary

In the early morning hours of June 6, 1944, a small detachment of British airborne troops stormed the German defense forces and paved the way for the Allied invasion of Europe. Pegasus Bridge was the first engagement of D-day, the turning point of World War II. This gripping account of it by acclaimed author Stephen Ambrose brings to life a daring mission so crucial that, had it been unsuccessful, the entire Normandy invasion might have failed. Ambrose traces each step of the preparations over many months to the minute-by-minute excitement of the hand-to-hand confrontations on the bridge. This is a story of heroism and cowardice, kindness and brutality - the stuff of all great adventures.

Great story told in greater detal

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

This is a great story but the narrator would do a better job. Sound quality was not good.

One of my favorite Audio books

I felt like I was there. Safely hidden watching how bravely our fathers fought and some having to pay with their precious lives.
I will forever be thankful for their courage and sacrifice.

Genuinely mediocre

Hard to imagine a more detailed account of such a trivial military engagement. Truly puzzling.

Ambrose at his usual best

Truly one of the great American writers. Ambrose wrote a stirring and compelling story recounting the early assault to secure the left flank of the D-Day forces. Fantastic book, beautifully written and wonderfully read. Highly recommend

A brief but excellent listen (read)!

I enjoyed listening to this and did so on the tail of listening to Panzer Commander which I did enjoy much more.

It is not a keeper in my Audible library but worth a listen.

As a 30 year US Army veteran, it annoyed me that the narrator kept pronouncing platoon as “plat tune”.

Great story.

Ambrose is always very good. I really enjoy how he presented his stories and facts. I only wish this was longer.
