Publisher's Summary

Mark Russell & Shannon Wheeler's faithful yet irreverent approach to the Bible made their book God Is Disappointed in You a modern cult classic. Now, by popular demand, they turn their attention to the best parts left out of the canonical Bible, including the Midrash, the Apocrypha, Gnostic Gospels, and more! And if you thought the Bible had some weird stuff in it....

A Goldmine of Weirdness

Apocrypha is like "The National Enquirer" to the Bible's "New York Times" —it has all the unsanctioned dirt; Adam's ill fated first marriage to Lilith, Eve's affair with the Serpent, and many more sex scandals, monster tales, and of course, lessons involving sex with monsters.

Juicier gossipier bible stories full of seriously laugh out loud jokes and James Urbaniak's narration. It's. So. Funny.

I didn't think Russell, Wheeler, and Urbaniak could top "God is Disappointed in You," but I was wrong. Like biblical knowledge, there are endless jokes to be mined, sometimes by simply telling the stories in plain english.

I LOVE these people!

If you're the sort that can't tolerate foul language or religious humor, this audiobook is NOT FOR YOU. Many people learn through dark humor and I'm one of them. Keep them coming!

One of the most entertaining and interesting AB's

Definitely worth the listen and the credit spent, an amazing and at times hilarious portrayal of the apocrypha.

Fantastic. I laughed til I cried

Mark Russell doesn't let the subject matter scare him. Like his previous book, this is hysterical and educational and level setting. Love these folks

Love this book It's funny and makes you think !

What did you love best about Apocrypha Now?

Everything ,loved the narrator !

What other book might you compare Apocrypha Now to and why?

I haven't read any other book but part of the original Apocrypha which is huge !

Which scene was your favorite?

Adam and Eve ,Jacob, Joseph, Lol Abraham, all of them, sorry !

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

Yes ,what moved me was the truth in the book and how it makes you think about what we have been taught from others, but if we really examine what we have been taught we will see the truth verses, the lie. In my opinion. .

Any additional comments?

Thank you to the writer and thank you to the narrator you made the book come alive ! I had not read your book God is disappointed in you Soooo, I bought that too. Thanks again

Thunder Perfect Mind

This book is an easy listen. It's short. I loved it.

It's a look at what Christianity used to be, a faith for all peoples. It's beautiful. This is meant to be comedic, and it is funny. However, if the church was still like this? I'd be there.

Awesome book. Finish trilogy...? Pretty please.

If you could sum up Apocrypha Now in three words, what would they be?

The inclusion (or follow-up) with the Gnostic texts is excellent.
Very contemporary. Well written & performed.

To Authors / illustrator: Can you finish the trilogy, pretty please? Pick a date. Maybe 600 CE. It’s nice and round. Go from there.

It’s sad that I learned more about religion from your book than any other source. Feel “happy with yourselves”, you earned it. Could you please continue the trilogy. Pretty please.

Which character – as performed by James Urbaniak – was your favorite?

James has a great range of character voices. Also liked his use of "pause" to express the meaning, not just the letter, of the book.

Great content, terrible narration

Such an interesting topic unfortunately ruined by bad narration. The content is interesting enough, it does need embellishing with quirky, childish delivery. Let the stories speak for themselves. If you want to be read to like a child around the campfire listening to your uncle tell ghost stories, this ones for you.

Wonderful, humorous, and respectful!

I loved this!! It's amazing and provides historical context for the writings.

It's humor lies in the modern day relatable dialogue interpretations, not on mockery of the texts. It's amazing and insightful!

So funny and yet accurate

I really enjoyed these series, together with God is dissapointed in you. Both are entertaining, funny and leave you wanting more. Very impressed with the reader.
Hopefully the author will cover more religious books, although the cartoons might not be always appropriate...
