Publisher's Summary

Adam Cade is entitled, arrogant - and he doesn’t remember me.

Adam is the prince of Lake Tahoe, born into one of the wealthiest families in the area, and he’s the one person I hoped to avoid.

He doesn’t recognize me.

He definitely doesn’t remember how he helped this town ruin my life.

Now that we work together, I have no choice but to get close to the arrogant ass if I want to keep my job.

Only, the closer I get, the less I see of the guy who wronged me in high school, and more of the sweet, sexy man he is now.

Excerpt:

He stalks across the room, his hair combed, his suit couture, in typical Adam fashion, and not at all like the casual man I glimpsed over the weekend. But the dark intent in his eyes is exactly what I saw beneath that polished exterior.

The same eyes that made me mad with lust this morning.

Never Date Your Enemy is an enemies-to-lovers romance with loads of sexy banter and a meaty plot that will keep you listening. Grab it now!

Susannah & Zachary did the best they could

The author should thank the narrators. I t was the only reason I listened to it.... because... Zachary Webber . I had to skip a lot of the female parts, not because of Susannah, she did a great job, but because that was probably the most annoying female character I have ever come across and I listen to at least 4 books a week.

DNF...

It's not that this book is BAD, per se...it's just...boring and repetitive. I'm 3 1/2 hours in and nothing is happening. Hayden is poking around, but not finding any information and Adam is just kind of...there?

This book focuses a lot on sexual harassment in the work place as well as corruption, but what's interesting to me is that even Adam is guilty of sexual harassment. Ex: Adam walks in on Hayden crawling on the ground looking for something and he basically says that he knew it was her because of her butt. She calls him out saying that it could be considered sexual harassment and he's all "no it's not..I was just saying that I could recognize you from behind." Uh...I'm pretty sure statements like they are in literally every single sexual harassment video I've ever watched at any job. It's actually the very definition of sexual harassment. What's worse? Hayden brushes it off after that. I get that office romances are flirty and sexual harrass-y like this and honestly? in the fictional world, it doesn't bother me, BUT when the book is literally harping on sexual harassment every other paragraph, having this kind of scene is contradictory. Also, don't even get me started on the amount of women that work there even when it's obviously a toxic environment FOR women. The CEO is a clear sexist AND someone got arrested the year before for attempted rape...so why work there?

I'm not wild about Hayden or Adam, to be honest. I feel like Hayden is basically playing detective the whole time without even remotely figuring anything out. It's kind of obvious what's going on, but she still can't see it. Adam is the kind of hero I DON'T like. He's very naïve despite the fact that he's not supposed to be and he's definitely the "fall guy". It's like the author wrote a book for that idiot who gets arrested for embezzling after being set up by all of his co-workers. That's basically Adam in a nutshell.

As far as the narrators, I really love Zacharay Webber and Susannah Jones. I'm still trying to figure out if they're pronouncing Jaeger's name wrong or not. They're saying Jay-Gur and it's really awkward. Maybe that's what it's supposed to be though.

Overall, I don't recommend this one. I haven't read anything else by Jules Barnard and I'm not so sure I'd try again.

OMGosh, OMGosh, OMGosh!!!! Each and every page... 😍😍😍

I thoroughly enjoyed this novel from the first page until the very last. It has been a very rare occurrence that I could just pick up a book and read it in one day; but, I was captivated by these characters and their amazing love story instantaneously.

Great Story and Narration

I loved the story of Hayden and Adam. I do think it could have been a bit shorter however. I like a 7 hour story. Just the right balance.

Great series

A great ending to a great series. Might be a little steamy for some, but the overall story is a good one! I think each book can be a stand alone although the info given in each book is helpful in the end!
I truly enjoyed the narrations in these books also!

Well done Zachary!! Yes to these men 💥💣💥

Loving those Cade brothers. Can't decide between Adam and Levi as to my fav Cade Brothers but Zachary nailed it again on the narration. And Susannah is becoming a fab narrator as well. I am sure there's more to these Cade Brothers and looking forward to moving on to the next book.

best of the series

definitely best of the series. I'd be interested in reading the stories of Adams brothers after this one and I almost had given up on the series and not finished it after the second book. I'm glad I stuck with it though because this one was the highlight of the 4 IMO.

Worth a listen

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Yes. The series is good - there is an underlying storyline running through the series, so it would be best to read/listen to them in order.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Cocky Prince?

Not sure.

Which character – as performed by Susannah Jones and Zachary Webber – was your favourite?

Hayden was my favourite. Adam is a good man, but he spent too long not sharing information with Hayden, and wilfully ignoring what he knew must be bad business practices for my liking.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

Can't think of just one.

3.5 stars.

Book 5 in Jules Barnard Never Date Series and while it initially reads like the usual rival co-workers with all the UST to power the Casino they work in for the next 80 years, this standalone book falls flat of a romcom like The Hating Game and never quite leans into the darker themes it hints at in the Blue Casino's Bliss Suites (which honestly the lack of commitment to one or the other made Hayden come across as an inept Nancy Drew as she tried to figure out what was going with the Blue Stars)

The chemistry between her and Adam was yummy but the miscommunication for their enemy status was paper thin and the investigation itself was too much of an afterthought which never felt like it met a decent enough conclusion.

Susannah Jones and Zachary Webber did a great job in the narrration but if I'd read this as an ebook I probably would not have finished.

Fine Story but *needs* to be open about the content

This was fine, very middle of the road romance. Hayden was a little frustrating because she didn’t trust Adam for reasons I didn’t think made sense. She was a logical person, it was pretty clear Adam wasn’t telling Hayden anything for justified reasons. Adam was consistent and swoon-ish.

Overall, the romance was not overly intense or intriguing, because it takes sort of a back seat in favor of the mystery. This book (I skip around series orders so this was my first) definitely looks like a rom-com based on the cover, title, tag-line, and blurb… it is not.

This has some pretty dark storylines from the horrific bullying Hayden endured, the (barely touched on) early sexual life Adam engaged in, fragmented family dynamics, extensive workplace misconduct and malpractice, workplace sexual assault and harassment, and…. Human trafficking.

I 100% anticipated this last from early on (I realized a few chapters in this was NOT the book I thought I would be listening to), but this is a heavy lineup of dark for readers. I am not triggered by much, but a lot of people are sensitive to this sort of content.

I’m intrigued by this author, and will continue with some of her other stuff… but like I said, this is relatively mediocre in the romance department in the face a dark mystery “sub”-plot.

Thankfully it is in the Plus Catalogue otherwise I’d have been a bit bitter about spending a credit on this due to the slightly false advertising.

The narrators carried this story

If it wasn't for the narrators i would have given this story 2 stars. Zachery and Susannah did a great job but omg i have never read a book with a more infuriating female character who i hate so much! Adam was a truly nice guy but Hayfen was selfish, self centered, naive and just urgh! She just kept going on about how she's going to make things right but she was just plain rubbish at it. Time and time again Adam asked her to trust him but she refuses, causes problems in the situation and the relationship between them. Why couldn't she see that he was clearly better resourced and in a much better position than her to deal with what's going on and what they're trying to do. No, all she could see was that he was 'with them' and 'supporting them' like seriously woman! I did enjoy the beginning and their enemies to lovers plot but honestly from about 70% on she seriously started to annoy me.

Great but went on for too long

The story was great, but about 5 chapters too long. I got bored towards the end which is a shame because the first 3/4 of the book were gripping.

Wow

Really enjoyed this book. I thought it would go pair shaped when she did what a friend suggested, but then she fell in love with him.
Loved the drama and the mix of friends. Great read.
Narration was awesome too.
