Publisher's summary

Unlikely friends...can be the hardest to let go.

Amanda became a nurse to save as many lives as possible.

After her mother died while being swindled by a church leader, Amanda swore off religion and turned to medical science to solve all of life's problems. But when she loses her home and job, and struggles to make a new life in a new town, Amanda's feeble beliefs can't withstand the pressure.

Hector's work on earth is done. He spent 92 years living, and now he's ready to spend eternity with his late wife in heaven. But when a foolish accident lands him in the hospital, he's saddled with a home nurse who wants to keep Hector alive as long as possible, much to his dismay.

When Amanda meets Hector, their personalities clash, but as they learn to open their hearts and listen to each other, they grow to realize the value of true friendship.

Fans of Karen Kingsbury will enjoy the realistic characters and faith-driven novels by Valerie Howard.

Story of forgiveness and restoration

This story caught my interest quickly and I enjoyed seeing how the story progressed. Amanda is a very likable character and though she makes some bad choices, it’s easy to sympathize with her as you learn more and more of her history. And though Hector is a grouch, you learn to love him, too! I loved seeing the healing and restored relationships in the story. And there were a few surprises at the end, too!
The narrator also did a great job with this story and making the characters come to life. The only downside was that most of the male characters tended to have the same scruffy, scratchy voice.

Inspirational

This is a book of encouragement during tough times. The two main characters: a curmudgeonly ex-chaplain and a nurse with life-issues connect when the old gentleman is unable to care for himself alone any longer. If you have aging parents, I suspect this will stir up lots of emotions, at least it did for me.

Be aware this book does address issues of faith, expressed in a believable way, and not overly pushy. For those readers who don't like real-life issues, the storyline may challenge you a bit; for readers who only like real-life issues and no talk of God, you will, likewise, be challenged. I don't know that I would consider this to be #2 in a "series," per se since there doesn't seem to be any overlap in characters from book to book, but I will continue to seek out works from this author--I like her tone and I like her stories.

if I could give the story more than 5 stars I would. It drew you in from the beginning and you wanted to keep listening. I didn't want the story to end!

Another great story and narration!

I loved this story! Just as much as the others I've listened to by this author and narrator. I love how a could be doctor decided to not pursue further med school, but was satisfied with caring for patients as a nurse. Hector was the best patient for her and I absolutely did not see that awesome ending coming!!

Wonderful short novel

This was a great book. I loved the characters and fell in love with the grumpy patient. Amanda has a heart for people and her life changes in this story were so realistic and the author did a great job of putting it all together. I look forward to reading and listening to more of Valerie Howard's books in the future.

wonderful and emotional

Valerie thought she had her life figured out, until her boyfriend of 5 years breaks up with her, she loses her job, and she is forced to move out of her apartment and rebuild her life.
I definately enjoyed this story. While I did feel this story started off a little slow it did pick up the pace and capture my attention. I loved watching the relationship between Valerie and Hector blossom, I found their daily banter to be enjoyable and funny at times but I mostly enjoyed watching Valerie overcome all of the difficult life obstacles.
This is the first by book I have listened to from this author and it will not be my last. I would recommend this to my friends and family.
I had the pleasure of listening to this audiobook and I found the narrator did a great job.

Good Story

Interesting story that I really enjoyed listening to. For most of the story, the main character is not a Christian and she has quite the journey through difficulties in her personal and professional life. It is also the story of an older man who believes that he no longer has any use in this world, only to discover that God still has much to use him for.

I enjoyed this book and listened to the audio version. The narrator did a pretty good job with reading the story and I liked listening to it. Toward the latter part of the book, there were a few times that the narrator read the lines using the wrong "voice", but that didn't happen too much.

I received a complimentary copy of this book. All opinions are my own.

New England inspirations are awesome!

I love these New England inspiration stories about real Christians are striving to be a good Christian. I first read picking Daisy and thought it was wonderful and now that I’ve read book to iamb totally obsessed with this Siri’s. I cannot wait until book 3 comes out if you have any doubts or questions about being a good Christian read this book it really helps you see the struggles a lot of people go through when choosing to love and follow Christ. The narrator was awesome by the way I thought she really lit a lot to the book and made it that much better.

Inspirational Message

Inspirational message to care givers and nurses, they are special people and this story showed this. When a patient is stubborn and unwilling it is hard for even nurses to minister to them. Good story
