Publisher's summary

Newly promoted police captain Bennett Carlyle considers being project manager for the new district substation the way to prove her worth in the male-dominated upper ranks of the department. But when the first girl she loved returns as the architect with little understanding of the operational needs of a police station, Bennett's career and her heart could face permanent damage.

Architect Kerstin Anthony believes the new police substation will be the springboard to her own firm and the necessary resources to care for her mother. When she confronts the girl she kissed in high school, now a tantalizing police officer with unrealistic expectations about the new facility, Kerstin's path to success becomes littered with unexpected hurdles. Along with tight deadlines, budget restraints, and architectural challenges, she has to battle both past and present feelings for the woman she was torn away from years ago.

Good book!!

I enjoyed this book, especially the narrator. She did a wonderful job with the characters. I can't say I was 100% in love with all the back and forth, push and pull, but it was interesting to see it unfold! Overall, I read more from this author!

Second Chance

Police Captain Bennett Carlyle a assighed to work on the project to build a new substation for the force. When the first girl she ever loved shows up as the architect in charge it’s a massive shock. Kerstin Anthony wants this project to be the success for her to start her own business. A hot romance with a family of police, firefighters and doctors. Great story.

Even better in audio

great story and romance. VK Powell doesn't disappoint. Loved the twist at the end. a few slips by the narrator, but the we're small and the performance was overall very good.

well that was more than I had expected

I listen to and read a fair amount of romance. Captain's Choice was better than most. in particular the emotional upheaval and resolution between the two was more detailed and involved fewer "and a miracle occurred" moments. I'm looking forward to to more books in this series

note: the performance is docked one star because of bad audio work in the last hour of the book. At time the narrator sounded like she was speaking into a tin can. this sort of ruined a sex scene and threatened the feeling of the conclusion.

mixed feelings on this one

So, I enjoyed the beginning of the book, getting to know/figure out the characters, but about halfway I was rolling my eyes at one character, Kirsten. she not only ran away from the woman she has had feelings for since high school, but she FLEW away, back home, several times. she slept with the woman of her dreams and then freaked out the next second, then got on a plane AGAIN?? at a certain point I wanted Bennett to get amnesia and finally forget Kirsten ha So, the basic storyline was good, but the characters weren't doing it so much for me. the ending was incredibly abrupt. Narrator was good.

Custin was irritating me for half the book. I love Ben's patience but I wish she wasn't so .... pleasing I guess. the book was good I wanted Ben to be more demanding. still Def good read
