I got her fired. Okay, so I’d had a bad day and took it out on a bystander in a pizza shop. But there’s nothing innocent about Ally Morales. She proves that her first day of her new job in my office, after being hired by my mother.

She’s working herself to death at half a dozen dead-end jobs for some secret reason she doesn’t feel like sharing with me. And I’m going to fix it all.

Don’t accuse me of caring. She’s nothing more than a puzzle to be solved. If I can get her to quit, I can finally peel away all those layers. Then I can go back to salvaging the family name and forget all about the dancing, beer-slinging brunette.

Perfection!

I can't say enough good things about this book. The story was entertaining and had all the feels, I never wanted it to end. I loved all of the different side characters and how involved they were in the main storyline. Narration was perfect! Erin and Sebastian were fantastic as always. This is my favorite audio of the year!

A side splitting swoon worthy love story

Ally and Dom’s love story has all the feels. It has everything. The book has a perfect blend of hilarity, sweet moments, difficult real life issues, and steamy sex. There was a lot of facing ugly truths and past pain with plenty of snort worthy laughs thrown in. This love story is not a twenty something’s flowers, mood lighting, tweeting birds and traditional romantic gestures insta-love story. Instead it is snarky hilarious yelling between a 45 year old grumpy grumpy boss and a 39 year old I am not going to take your rude entitlement and refrain from speaking my mind slow burn enemies to lovers love story. But it was just as beautiful and swoon worthy. This love story was really about embracing their pasts, their hurts, who that made them today and who they wanted to be tomorrow. Ally and Dom had to use sledgehammers to try to break down both their walls to allow just large enough cracks to let a bit of sunlight and a tentative hand to reach through. Seeing snarky (at least to Dom) but loving Ally slowly and lovingly break down completely closed off Dom and both of them to be willing to wrap their love around each other’s hearts was a beautiful thing to witness. Sprinkled throughout this beautifully paced story of Ally and Dom’s HEA, there are also a number of secondary characters introduced in this book. Rather than being overwhelming or detracting from the main love story, these characters are central to the unfurling of Ally and Dom’s dance of love and passion and made the characters and story well rounded. With By a Thread, Lucy Score once again proves she’s a fantastic hilarious storyteller and spelling rude/romantic things with food might be my new favorite thing. The only thing that could make this story better is to have it narrated by Erin Mallon and Sebastian York who breathe beautiful four dimensional life into these already three dimensional characters.
